Lake Wave Hotel

We cannot praise Lake Wave Hotel enough. The owner, Milan, is an extremely nice, enthusiastic and helpful man with impeccable English. Within two minutes of arriving, he’d recommended two of his friends for tuk tuk tours at an extremely reasonable price. We started with four hours around Mihintale with an excellent guide, Nalin, via a stop-off at an ancient tree swarming with monkeys and a peaceful ancient temple. The next day, we had a six-hour tuk tuk tour around the sites of the old city with the incomparable Siri, who I cannot recommend highly enough. He really did his best for us… we finished the tour in the dark with my two daughters singing a prayer next to him in front of a 2,000-year-old Buddha in the forest. As for the Lake Wave: the family room was large, clean and comfortable, with a kettle, air con, mosquito nets and an en suite. There is an incredible huge covered balcony overlooking a beautiful, quiet garden (the first thing we saw was a green parrot in the tree directly opposite us!). The lake is immediately outside the garden gate and we had a very gentle twenty-minute stroll around it, stopping on the way back to use a swimming pool 100m from Milan’s place (as suggested by him). In the morning, my daughters lay in the hammocks in the garden and read. Milan’s mother sells clothes and purses she’s made herself inside the foyer and my daughters bought three purses and one bag. The food was delicious and we ate absolutely everything: rice steamed in bamboo, with coconut milk and fruit juice and fresh fruit, roti with fresh sambul. The whole family were gentle and charming. Milan arranged a car to take us to Nilaveli at a competitive price. I would trust anyone he recommends! I wish we could have stayed longer. I liked everything

Milan is an excellent host. Both the breakfasts and dinners were excellent. The location on the lake is a beautiful setting.

Food was delicious. It was wonderful to have traditional Sri Lankan home cooked meals for breakfast and dinner prepared by the owner’s mother. Better than you’ll find at any restaurant. The owner took the time to explain every dish we were eating. There was nothing we didn’t like. Staff is wonderful, warm, engaging and always helpful. They helped us with transportation and a wonderful guide and even taught us the rules of cricket.

I don’t know where to start! If you are looking for a wonderful location with the most beautiful people, pick here! Milan is so incredibly helpful & organised the best tours we took in Sri Lanka. We learnt so much from our guides and the prices were very low. Milan’s mother (amma!) is an amazing cook and seamstress. The food they cooked us was amazing and between them they organised many different foods that we had not tried before. The garden is absolutely beautiful with the hammocks and leads out to the lake which has a new path you can walk around. The hotel is full of beautiful plants everywhere! Amma makes the most wonderful clothes and other items. I had some trousers and tops made specially in fabrics I chose and love them! We really enjoyed our time here but mainly we loved spending time with Milan & his amma. We were very sad to leave and can’t wait to return some day :)

Its in a quiet neighborhood. The rooms were okay. Not super clean but had all the facilities. The owner accommodated our request to provide breakfast. The bed broke in the night and I had to find alternate sleeping arrangements. I felt the linen was not cleaned properly. The place needs an ungraded.

Property was quiet, in a pleasant waterfront location. Room was a good size, bathroom was new and adequate. Good air-conditioning and WiFi. Breakfast was extra, good Sri Lankan breakfast. The owner was extremely helpful in all aspects and especially going to the trouble of sending belongings we left behind, by courier to our next hotel.I was very grateful for his effort in this. Could have a kettle in the room. We asked and one was supplied.

Great place to stay in Anuradhapura, the garden with view on the lake is so nice, especially after a very hot day. Milan is an incredible host, so welcoming and helpful, it was a true pleasure to meet him! The food (both breakfast and dinner) was copious and amazing - among the best ive had during my trip in Sri Lanka!

Milan is super nice, helpful and organized, the best Tuk Tuk drivers for excursions. The rooms are simple. Good air conditioning, comfortable bed and your own bathroom. The garden and the view are very beautiful, located right on the lake. Breakfast and dinner are prepared by Milans mom. Both very tasty and only recommended. It felt like a homestay. I can only recommend it .

Large rooms, with comfortable beds. The A/C was working great, and in terms of cleanliness it was pretty good. The beds were really comfortable too. The host Milan was superb, and attentive to our needs and his mom cooks amazing food! The whole complex is very nice, with a nice yard. Milan also has bikes to rent. WiFi was decent, there were times that we had trouble with connection.

The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. The hotel host and staff are very helpful and friendly. The location, near the centre of the new town, on the bank of a lake, is perfect. There is a hotel garden, bordering the lake and the rooms have all thinkable modern facilities (super showers), ours even had a small balcony. Sulanda, the mother of the host, has a small tailoring workshop in the hotel. She is a good and experienced tailor. What more do you want!? Nothing

Our host Milan was attentive, polite, and well spoken. He took the time to explain everything from the delicious food he served up to the sights and attractions in the area. The accommodation itself is a cute lakeside hotel with a beautiful lush garden. The quality of the food was amazing. Local SriLankan dishes with local ingredients served with care and attention to detail. It's hard to fault for the price.

Backing on to the lake gives walking access to some restaurants. Great host but don’t challenge him to a game of pool because he will probably beat you! Nothing

Great place to stay in Anuradhapura! In a lovely quiet location on the edge of town with a lovely back garden overlooking the lake. Convenient to the temples but peaceful - the breeze from the lake made the garden a lovely place to relax after visiting the temples. Milan and his family are wonderful hosts and the home cooked food is great. My room was also spotless and very comfortable. Milan also organized perfect tuk-tuk trips for me with an excellent driver who also acted as guide. Siri was extremely knowledgeable about his hometown and the temples - he did not simply parrot what it says in the guidebooks! This was a truly exceptional place to stay when visiting Anuradhapura! Great place to stay - totally recommend!

The location is good being on the lake with a walking path. The room was clean and comfortable with a fridge and balcony. The meals served are great, tried breakfast, lunch and dinner here and all were fantastic. I recommend.

Nice place on the water with a big, bright comfortable room. Owner is very hands-on and super friendly. Garden out front is wonderful. There's no sign, it's tricky to find. Food is very good at the hotel but check prices first if you're on a budget.
