Seagate
About Seagate
The Seagate is a 17th-century hotel located in the village of Appledore, overlooking the Torridge estuary. It offers bed and breakfast accommodations in individually furnished rooms, with the inn serving real ale and cider alongside an extensive food menu with local seafood specialties. Each room features a hair dryer, a flat screen TV, cotton sheets and tea/coffee making facilities. Some rooms include a sea view and a seating area. Some rooms are located in the main building, and others are located in a new development nearby, a 2-minute walk away. A full English breakfast is offered alongside fresh fruit, cereal and fresh orange juice. The property features a bar and restaurant which serves lunch and dinner daily. The menu features a wide variety of fresh fish. The full menu is available throughout the inn and on the front and rear terraces, overlooking the estuary. Within around 10 minutes’ drive, you can visit the port of Bideford, and the beaches of Instow and Westward Ho.

Big shout out for Kris and Ruthie who made our stay special. Loved the box of chocolates on the bed when we arrived for my birthday. Thank you for a lovely personal touch. Staff most friendly and welcoming. Breakfast choices were great. Nothing to improve on.

Location was great !! Main pub was lovely if a little expensive We were in a separate building on the Ground floor with "Quay view" but all we could see was parked cars. Need to change description. Room quite small & dark & unable to open windows as direct onto pavement.

Bedroom was lovely and bed very comfy

The room and location of the property is excellent The first night was disappointing as there was limited food available and what they did eventually serve was awful and did put us off eating again in the restaurant. However, the duty Manager was very understanding and apologetic ensuring that we were not charged. Food and drinks were very expensive again making us look for alternative venues. Breakfast was very unorganised and slow, we had to constantly prompt the staff to replenish continental items and we even had to set our own table each morning! We noticed walk ins were walking out due to the lack of attention and we met several patrons around the village also choosing to eat elsewhere. The standards of the Seagate have slipped since our last stay

Value for money, excellent room overlooking the water. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Superb breakfast. Tea facilities not so good, too often one of the three, teabag, sugar or milk were missing. John's delicatessen disappointing, very bland and tasteless takeaways, but I don't blame Seagate for that.
