Relax Resort Hotel

It's a boutique hotel in the mountian with amazing views over Atami. The hotel has a very special vibe with love to details, the room was very big and modern with a balcony, it was very quiet. We enjoyed the hotel Onsen. The way up to the hotel is a bit challenging. We had a rental car and it was a big adventure to get up the curvy road. However taxis come within less than 5 min and are really affordable (~1000¥)

The meals stood out over our two night stay. Our 20 year old niece did not appreciate the haute cuisine but my wife and I did very much enjoy the multicouse dinners and both the traditional Japanese and Western Breakfasts. The room was excellent as well. We booked the private onsen suite with the separate double beds in one room and a western king size bed in the living room. I guess that would be the only room complaint- even a portable divider or curtain for the main bed to divide it from the main living area would be nice. The view was obstructed by an older building with garbage stacked in back. Getting to the property was taxi only! I would not recommend walking this tight, steep and narrow road- especially with luggage. They do point this out when booking so it was not a surprise. Do not expect casual strolling into town. Use an inexpensive taxi! We were there in the off season (end of May on a Monday and Tuesday) so no fireworks and many places close early or do not open at all.

The facility is the perfect mix of Japanese and western accommodation!

We added dinner at the hotel restaurant, and the dinner was excellent. Our group booked two rooms at this property, but the experience was a tale of two extremes. The Western-style room on the third floor was spacious, nice, and offered a beautiful ocean view. In contrast, the Japanese-style room on the first floor was located at the back of the building and was cold, dark, and drafty. (It looked like they converted an office into a guest room.) It even required us to walk outside just to reach the main part of the hotel. Given that the room charges were nearly identical, we were very disappointed by the lack of consistency. To make matters worse, there was a recurring smell like rotten vegetables, possibly from the onsen pump system outside. Although we raised these issues at check-in, we were told nothing could be done due to the hotel being full. We ended up swapping rooms among friends, but after a restless night, we complained again at checkout. We asked to relay the message to management, but we never heard a word back.

I don't normally write reviews for hotels, and am normally very forgiving, but for this price and the quality I had expected, I am very disappointed. Price: Very expensive hotel for what it offers. I'm not sure why there are so many high reviews. After doing some research, I determined that my room rate was exceedingly high (42K/night) for a Standard Twin Room for what I experienced was a low occupancy weekend. Noise: It should be known that the hotel is above the tunnel for the Shinkansen, and you can hear the low vibration of the Shinkansen every time it passes. You get used to it, but it is something to be aware of. Location: The steps up to the hotel are on a very steep and narrow slope with a tunnel. It is impossible to walk up with luggage and I am glad I took a taxi when I checked in. It is quite dangerous to walk down the slope at night and I would recommend to carry a flashlight if you do. Cars drive up and down the slope very fast. The hotel should really offer a tuktuk service for guests trying to go up and down the slope. It is an accident waiting to happen. The view is nice, however. Lobby: The lobby has a bit of an old and musty scent and also has a coffee maker that does not work. There is almost never anyone present at the front desk, even in daytime hours, so you must ring a bell to get someone's attention. Room: The room was spacious. It comes with a balcony which has a nice view of Atami. There were stains on the carpet for the entry way. The air conditioning could not be set low enough so I was hot often at nighttime. The hot tub was nice. Bugs: There was an insect problem. Within the first hour of me checking into the room, I saw a cockroach. Thankfully, it scurried out the door. But after another hour, I encountered a flying insect above my bed, which I reported to the front desk.

I decided at the last minute to have dinner at the hotel and the staff and chef were so kind to accommodate me - thank you!! Dinner was delicious. The whole stay was excellent. Clean, fresh, updated rooms too.

This hotel feels like being in Carmel California only it's Japan. It is very small and personal. All the rooms have an amazing view of the ocean here in Atami, which is cerulean blue. It is quiet and secluded and perfect for a romantic get away. It is NOT a place for kids. It is adult and romantic. The rooms are large, we had a beautiful balcony with table and chairs. You must have 2 nights at least to appreciate it. The breakfast was superb, we had Japanese style. You can walk here from the train station and we walked to the sacred tree (kinomiya shrine) and to the Plum garden from here. It is not for the faint of heart as it is very hilly but we loved it. there are lots of cozy nooks to sit in. Definitely would love to return.

Great resort! I wish I had more time for a longer stay. The room was amazing, and the view is beautiful. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Dinner was also very good, and the customized embroidered napkin was a memorable keepsake. I'd definitely stay here again when visiting Atami

This is a spectacular hotel. Our room had a hot spring on the patio, which was incredible. The dinner that was inclusive could not have been any better. A seven course meal that is unparalleled. The whole experience just completed our trip to Japan! And wrapped it in a big ribbon! We loved it. The hotel has an extremely steep driveway. They did tell us about this, but transportation from the train would have been wonderful or a shuttle bus or even a golf cart to get up and down the hill might be the perfect addition to go in and out of town.
