Black Friar Inn and Pub

The extremely well-cared for Victorian home, well-appointed and charming rooms and outstanding food from the restaurant.

The inn is small and quaint. The room was just as described. It was fine … average. We only ate breakfast in the pub which was also fine. The server, Jamey did a great job and anticipated our needs before we needed to ask. Our experience with the owners is what left a bad taste in our mouth. It’s a great example of how customer service can make all the difference in an experience. The very first thing the owner said to us when we arrived is, “Where did you park?” There was no ‘Hello’ or introduction or ‘Welcome’ or even a smile … ever. Just asked where we parked. Then he told us we need to move or we will be towed and collected our payment. It felt very much like he was put out for having to deal with us and he was in an enormous hurry to be done with us. That was our introduction to the Black Friar Inn. We didn’t feel at all welcome and certainly don’t feel that the experience is worth $300+ for a night.

The location was perfect, just a short walk to the waterfront and village green. Breakfast menu was vast and the food was excellent. The staff helped us with their knowledge of the region and transit options. Although we did not spend much time watching television, the streaming internet service was slow and cumbersome.

The room was very clean and comfortable. We had dinner at the pub and it was delicious. At breakfast guests can choose from the extensive menu and breakfast is included with the room. The facility is close to the main shopping and restaurant areas. There was nothing we didn’t like.

Easy walkability to everything.

Good location, fair breakfast. Charged for premium breakfast items. My wife had a bowel accident and had to use the inn's sink and towels to wipe herself. She couldn't use the coffin sized shower because she is claustrophobic. Upon leaving, we found a bag with the soiled towels and a nasty note left on our vehicle. They also charged my credit card $200,00 for the soiled towels. On the day we checked out and before we returned to our vehicle, we remained in the Bar Harbor area. Instead of leaving their bag and nasty note, they could have called me, and I would have agreed to wash the towels myself.

The building was very quirky in a good way. Winding staircase and each room was unique. Lots of stairs.

Location was great, very homey. Not accessible but I'm not sure how it could be made that way, considering the age and size of the building

It was a small historic B&B. It was close to Acadia National Park as well as many shops and restaurants. The Pub restaurant served excellent food!

It was lovely. A quintessential New England Inn. The location was perfect and other than visiting Acadia we had no reason to move our car. The room was comfortable and quiet and the included morning breakfast was really good and cooked to order. There was nothing I did not like

Conveniently located, great breakfast

Very small and intimate b&b. Staff are super nice and it’s walkable to everything downtown. The restaurant is phenomenal. Definitely plan to eat here. The breakfast is included and it’s order off the menu with lots of great options including an array of eggs Benedict
