Mellow Hostel Barcelona

The views from the hostel. The easy access if taking the right transit service. They have AC. Nice terrace. They have a kitchen and close by supermarkets.

Location, room, facility, bathroom just horrible place

Location. (And Barcelona is disgustingly overpriced.)

Apparently the place has a bad reputation. One time the police asked everyone around, even those who were not involved in it, to get inside due to noise complaints.

Kitchen

The only positive was that the location had a very local feel Horrible. It’s not as advertised at all, I don’t know if this was because of down season or not. The kitchen was completely unusable and gross - there were missing tools, the floor and bench were all dirty and gross, and the fridge was overflowing with spoiled food, with no apparent system. We confronted the staff about this and they told us they were actually considering closing the whole kitchen down, but they haven’t done it. The showers are also unhygienic, full of hairs and no apparent cleaning. The toilets on the third floor were at least usable. People are SPITTING on the floors. Extremely gross. Most of the people that are staying there are actually long-term residents, which we were not informed about. That’s fine by itself, but the more “ghetto” vibe affects the whole residence. The check-in is super slow and took about 20 mins, because it seems like they don’t have your info available. On day 2 I figured out my card had been blocked and I suddenly could not enter my room, which was extremely inconvenient. None of the staff knew how to fix it and I was told to wait for the next staff to come in an hour. When he finally came he unblocked my card in less than 30 seconds, which shows the lack of communication. There is no AC in the entrance room and none of the vending machines work. The beds are extremely hard and uncomfy, and the noise of the long-term residents make it impossible to sleep at night. Absolutely would not recommend.

It was very calm and accommodating. Everything was functional, good for the value, clean, and Hassan at the front desk was very helpful and welcoming. I liked the property just fine but it’s up at the top of a big hill so just be prepared to climb a hill or stairs every day

Ambience

Location There were hygiene issues, and most of the guests were much older (40+). As a young traveler, I was hoping to share this experience with people closer to my age.

The room was very small

Was a great hostel! Nice kitchen area, beautiful balcony to talk with others, and plenty of spots to study or work! Close enough to shops but not very central so takes a while to get there. Staff are super nice and the place is clean asf! Beds were clean and everything you need
