Narrow stairs

the host is super nice! facilities are clean and not crowded. for the price paid, it is what you would expect, very convenient for solo travelers. located 5/10 minute walk from the station and 3min walk to Beppu Kitahama bus stop (airport bus). every women I met in the women's dormitory were super nice and respectful, I didn't have any problem during my stay. also met very nice people there, a lot of travelers/English speakers come here so it is nice to make new friends! if you are planning to stay for an extended period of time, this might not be the best place. the price is very cheap but it is very cramped. some guest can be noisy late at night (but it really depends on your luck honestly- I stayed for 2 weeks and was bothered less then 3 nights). for a few days it is totally fine! but for more than a week I wouldn't necessarily recommend. the women-only dormitory room is like a hall, you don't have space to let your luggage open all the time. there is only one sink in the bathroom so if you need to wash your face but a lady is brushing her teeth you'll have to wait... also the stairs to go up the guesthouse are very steep, so be careful if your luggage is very heavy!

Great room, huge bed, and prompt check-in. The staff were very nice and everything was super clean. The neighborhood has good food and transit options as well.

The kitchen and bathroom facilities were good: the hot water worked well and you could use the well-kitted kitchen. They make you pay for the use of any towels... the beds were squeaky in a cramped and poorly-lit room... You have to make-up your own bed which can be a bit exhausting after a day of travelling especially because it's a dark, cramped space. It just didn't feel like a very welcoming location; I wouldn't recommend for solo travelers.

The screen in the common room was a little bit too much haha!

Nothing

There are many restaurants, cafes, public hot springs, and cute cats nearby. It's conveniently located near Beppu station too, so you can get to Beppu Jigoku, Yufuin, or Oita airport easily. You can also leave your luggage before and after check-in, & the staff are communicative. Since this was a last minute afforable booking, nothing to complain about! Beds can be squeaky, so it just depends on what kind of roommates you get if staying in a shared room and if they respect the quiet hours.

It's really dark so not a cozy Hostel atmosphere. You don't wanna spend time inside.

Exceptional

Meeting people from around the world. Central position of the hostel. Personal is nice. The place was very dark. I was missing windows. Also there is not much space in the room, kitchen was very small and a bit dirty. The worst was the toilet in the first floor. I was very stinky and old. :(

the space is super hip and cool! this is advertised as a king bed, please note that this is 2 twin beds pushed together with a very hard seam between. additionally we were unable to bring our bikes up the stairs

Good location right down from the ocean, walking distance to most shops, train station and restaurants. Bed was comfy, staff were friendly at check in. Good value for money. Various kittens around the place so bonus points

Very good

Some people might like the entertaining establishments around. Double bunk beds are good, sturdy and not making a noise when you climb them. Towel is extra payment. Doors are too low. Hit myself hard three times. People use bars with girls next to hotel. They get completely wasted and snore whole night. The price is too high in comparison to other places I stayed in Beppu and their comfort. The building is run down, dusty and equipment seems to remember a lot without maintenance. Bathroom is not good and also needs to be cleaned more.

* Easy check-out: simply drop the key into the mailbox. * The location is conveniently near a famous hot spring and many shops. * I visited during winter, and the room was freezing cold. The blanket provided was not suitable for winter.
