This is a family owned business and they are incredibly welcoming. They have a lovely place with a great location (easy to find as it's near the entrance to the castle). I booked this last-minute and we had decided that we wanted to have lunch there (they have a fabulous restaurant with traditional food). The restaurant was sold out with a few tour groups but they accommodated us anyway. We were in no hurry -- the garden where we were seated was lovely and we were happy to be there. I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know the names of the family members. The son greeted us -- a warm and very funny guy. His father, equally was also warm and funny. The mother cooks the amazing food, I think with the grandmother, and she's also very sweet. They all work VERY hard to accommodate you and make your experience positive, all with a smile and a great sense of humor. Bonus points that the cost is extremely reasonable. Highly recommend.

If you are visiting Berat, do yourself a favor and stay at Hotel Klea. My entire experience here was nothing short of divine.There is something incredibly serene about staying within the living citadel of the castle; it felt like stepping back in time but with all the modern comforts you could need. It is easily the best choice in all of Berat.The hospitality was world-class. From the moment I arrived, the host was absolutely amazing. Not only did they provide excellent directions and local suggestions that made my trip, but they also went above and beyond by helping me lug my heavy bag all the way from the parking area to my room.And then there’s the food! The breakfasts were absolutely amazing. They are prepared by three lovely ladies who clearly put their hearts and souls into every dish. You can taste the care and tradition in every bite.I cannot recommend Hotel Klea highly enough. It is a peaceful, beautiful gem that I will never forget. Nothing! It was amazing and despite being within the castle area, it was very easy to find and easy parking. The walk to and from the castle area even at night as well lit and beautiful.

Klea Hotel and Restaurant is an authentic family-run little gem of the hotel in the heart of the Berat castle. You are received by a welcoming family team that try super hard to make your stay very special. The rooms offer spotless cleanness and home-feel comfort. The breakfast, included in the already reasonable cost of a stay, is delicious and generous.

The room was great, breakfast was exceptional and we had a delicious dinner. Nothing, everything was great.

You can pay by card here, both for hotel and restaurant. Room is really cozy. Castle area is interesting to explore, so you can walk here at day or night to see city in different lightings. Parking is inside of the castle near the hotel.

Hotel Klea was just as pictured and even more terrific! We arrived into Berat Castle with a little angst, trying to contend with 2-way traffic through the portal to the castle. We parked outside the gate, walked in, and quickly located the hotel. Once checked in, and after the tourist exodus, we drove in and had ample and easy parking. The hotel is situated beautifully, at the top of the castle hill. The views around it are stunning, especially at sunset, as we discovered. It’s in a perfect location for exploring the ancient walled city. Our room was clean, comfortable, and had a lovely view of the courtyard below, where everything was in bloom and the air was fragranced with what smelled like jasmine. We took a walk around the castle and enjoyed all the vistas of old and new Berat, the gorgeous countryside and river below. We returned for dinner at Hotel Klea and enjoyed everything, sitting in the courtyard outside. The hotel is run by a family who are talented in the arts of delicious food AND our host - son of the chefs - was the consummate guide. Not only was he magnanimous, he was also fun and funny as heck, and we greatly enjoyed his company. In the morning, we enjoyed more of the house specialties at breakfast, sitting in a bright sun-filled room. Again, everything was delicious. The whole experience was a treat! Nothing to not adore. Getting into the castle was a typical Albanian driving experience… narrow path, steep incline. But there were people around to guide and direct, and it was a small price to pay for such a special experience!

This was my second stay at Hotel Klea and it was as pleasant as the first. It’s comfortable, welcoming, and he values exceptional. I wholeheartedly recommend a stay here or at least a meal here while in Berat.

And the breakfast… simply amazing! Generous, varied, and made with high-quality ingredients – a real highlight of the day. The owners are absolutely lovely: kind, attentive, and caring – they truly make you feel at home. I’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended! ?

Historic hotel and restaurant run by very kind hosts

Charming hotel in an amazing location on the castle grounds. The host went out of his way to help, and even gave me and another guest a ride to the bus station since he was going in that direction. More than appreciated.

Perfect location with a spectacular view. Wonderful, charming and pittoresque room, comme il faut. Great host and most delicious food - esp the moussaka and the cassata parfait.
