They need to improve the stairs. They are bit creepy and locating stairs was a Lil bit difficult. They should add indications from the ground floor itself.

The beds were not comfortable

Great location, easy to connect to railway, to metro and Crawford market Going up 3 floors quite tired with big backpack.
-
Written as a hostel but really don’t feel like one, as no one spoke or treated the hostel as one.

Stay elsewhere & suffer the consequences of expense or a welcoming enjoyable stay in Mumbai. I don't know of a better located & fair priced accomodation. Nothing at all.

Loads of charm, best location for shopping. Very affordable for Bombay. Old fashioned charm. No AC. Not much privacy. Three flights of stairs. Staff needed some training.. with customer service.

Great stay in New Vasant Ashram. The rooms are clean and well-kept, and the staff is very nice and helpful. Excellent location, one minute walk to the Crawford Market, and 10-min walk to CSMT or Marine Lines stations. Very decent price for Mumbai as well. Good free Wi-Fi, fridge, lockers... Indian showers, be warned (but very manageable).

I stayed there to take the train the next morning. Station CSMT is nearby, for me just a bit to far to walk but if you are good walker you can manage. There are enough taxi’s coming by and even a bus behind the indoor marked. The wifi worked properly. The room was good enough with a chair, a desk and a bed. Soap and towel is not included but you can ask for it. Indians have mostly a bed with a pillow, but an extra bedsheet to sleep under you can also ask for and everything cost 10 ore 20 rupees what is a far price. As they advertise it is old style, even as a lot of the buildings in this area it has an atmosfeer from the time of the colonization. They provide you an extern lock to close your big door. It is a nice hostel, they did not told me by checking in and I did not read in by my booking, but there is a common room and even a small kitchen with some equipment what you can use. The toilets and badroom are shared but for Indian standards it al was rather clean. There was (on the menssite) one bathroom, two India style toilets and one Wester style toilet. The western style was closed and you had to ask for the key ad the reception, I have no idea why they do that. The area is surrounded by al kind of shops, mostly for clothes. You kan find a lot of food at the marked. There are just a few restaurants, if you want choose you need to go in the direction of the Marine Railwayststion ore CSMT. But there was just down to the right a nice and busy soud-Indian pure veg restaurant with a lot of choose. It was good to stay there for a night if you want to be in that area and oke with an hostel atmosphere, although for an hostel the price was just a bit to hight. Be aware the place is really an exiting challenge to find. As they describe properly the entrance is next to the big shop called Roopam. But they don”s say where… if you stand with your nose to the Roopamshop, the entrance is at the left site. If open you will see something that looks like a shop, it sells underwear and bra’s and so on. This is actually the entrance so you have to enter this shop/small hall and walk to the back site. If this shop is closed there is still this small hal to enter. At the end of this hall it is confusing again, there is a very small stair at your left but leave it, go on to the right to a quite dirty property and at the end you wil find the stairs up. There you have to clime up, they say 2e floor but counting from 1 above so actually it is 3 high. For older ore not good climbers it is not a good place to be. The place and room was fancy with some old furniture and clean, but old style also ment not so much privacy as shared bad-rooms and open spaces in your room. The rooms are on a shared balcony to enter. At the backsite (there was my room) there is notting to see, only the buildings backsites. At the frond site the view is on the street but I have not been there so I did not checked properly. Anyway the streets are very noisy. My room had a big door with separate provided lock. Above the door are iron bar’s. There where not so much fly’s and mosquitos this time of the year but anyway I was happy I brought my mosquito-net with me and used it just incase. The other site of the room was wood and also open above. So if you have an visitor in the next room who is calling loudly on his phone the whole time (as I had) ore some one who listen loud music it is very inconvenient. I was happy not to be at the streetsite because that would be a lot of noise too. Anyway, for the whole experience the price was just a bit to high. The way they want to great it up in the advertisements (old style retro vibe ect.
