Protea Hotel Fire & Ice by Marriott Cape Town

It’s a standard Marriott Property. Clean and updated but not the Ritz Staff at times were ignoring especially in the restaurant.

Great service.

I asked to rebook to another date, but that was denied due to "no availability", although I was able to get several rooms of exactly the same category on the new date. Obviously the hotel attempted to re-rent and earn double. I then asked to cancel for free, but that was also denied. As a Gold Elite customer I would have expected some sort of solution, not just plain greed.

Everything about the hotel was great, location, cleanliness, breakfast, staff Nothing

Room was clean, adequate and comfortable. Had a bar fridge, hair dryer, coffee machine and kettle. Small gym area and outdoor heated pool. Did not receive coffee pods the second day for use in the coffee machine. Air conditioner was difficult to set and kept resetting to extra cold. For the price breakfast should be included not as an extra expense. Have to pay extra for parking and was not allowed on arrival to prebook a parking for the following day. Was told first come first served basis.

Stafff was amazing.

Room did not have a designated bathroom with door. Shower was part of room - awkward as I was sharing with a friend so no privacy. No separate bathroom. Shower was literally in the room Rooms are small

There were some little maintenance issues - the window was really draughty (luckily i could change rooms) but then the fridge was broken. No big deal but not top.

The staff was excellent and attentive. The food was outstanding. Everything was really clean and taken care of. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. If I had to nitpick and find something I didn't like I would say no dressers and no microwave. There were shelves in the closet area that I used instead of a dresser so maybe thats just the way they do it in South Africa.

Staff were very helpful and always around to assist with baggage, questions and requests. Rooms are well equipped . The hotel is undergoing a major renovation which we were not notified of. The entire bar, lounge and restaurant were not available for use. Breakfast was served in a conferencing room and should rather have been on the pool deck to take advantage of the view. This was disappointing considering I did a site inspection 6 weeks prior to checking in.

New styling is cheap. Breakfast served in temp dining hall, was cold and taste was not great. No eggs and no one checking up on this unitl I notified the staff

Everything was great. I used my data and didn't need to use the Wi-Fi. Nothing was unlikeable

The staff were hospitable, warm and very attentive. (This actually was the star of this hotel) i liked the location, very close to kloof street (checkers, pharmacies, coffee shops, bars, restaurants)and long street (if you are about the night life) the ambiance and the staff to be honest, very helpful. Overall its very close to many restaurants and bookap. all within short walking distances. Rooms were small to my liking but overall okay, they were comfortable.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Must have had 5 people ask if I wanted coffee or something else at breakfast. The air conditioning unit in the room was not functional. Luckily, it wasn't too hot, but as always, air conditioning in hotels always seems to be an issue.

The location and the atmosphere in general Staff were very late to respond to requests. For example when I or my father asked some plates and cutlery they took like approx 30mins to bring it up.
