American Inn Cedar Rapids South

Place seemed to be going through some changes. Breakfast options seemed okay. Didn’t see an elevator if that’s a concern for people. Room had a dorm sized fridge and a dated microwave but all in all okay. Room however did smell of stale cigarettes so if that’s a trigger for some perhaps find a different spot. 4.8/10

Staff was nice. Quick check in. Rooms were nice. Atmosphere/environment around the Inn seemed a bit unsafe.

Pleasantly surprised since many Wyndham hotels we have visited recently have been so low end. Property was well maintained and room was quiet with comfortable bed. Check in and check out were fine. Would stay again.

Nice hotel

Nice, clean hotel. Room was just what we needed. Definitely a great stay

Night desk man helpful when needing remedy for no usb charging options in room for phone. Provided charging block. Main floor level room windows do not lock, bidet toilet broken and leaking, no plug stop for tub to be filled had to use washed to plug tub. Secondary washrag for bathing had large stain that looked like feces. No toiletries available in room or in lobby for purchase such as toothbrush or toothpaste, qtips, or basic hygiene needs one may forget when traveling. No extra pillows or blankets in room. Just overall dissatisfied. The morning desk clerk was not helpful at all.

Breakfast wasn't good. Check in staff wasn't responsive.

Dated but not worn out. Amazingly clean. Reasonably priced. Quiet. Kind of a no frills unicorn. Most basic places I am concerned about the sleeping on the sheets and in the bed. No such worries here.

We spent one night here and went to Kinnick Stadium. We were able to Uber 5 people there and back for less than it cost for parking at the venue. The hotel was somewhat dated, but clean and comfortable enough for our stay and expectations. The staff were friendly and helpful and the continental breakfast hit the spot on the way out the door the next morning.

They were very nice to me respectful.And I got a heck of a deal.I really needed to stay.I'm homeless and i'm disabled so I wish I can get some free nights and I have tremors too and I was shaking around back today but I got through it all and they were good

The staff welcoming was fine- he actually helped because I had forgotten a phone cord a he had one I could borrow. We walked into room and the bathroom had tissue or toilet paper on the ground. The beds were hard. The pillows were awful and I slept terribly even though I was exhausted from a very busy day. We arrived for breakfast at least 40 minutes before it ended (which was 9am on a Sunday) and there was almost nothing available. No waffle mix, a few “pastries”, cereal but there was about two tablespoons of milk left. Yogurt, fruit (apples and bananas), and bread. That was breakfast. Very disappointing. Pretty sure the data center craze in CR has left hotels unwelcoming for regular travelers. This will not be a place we choose again.

Property was less than clean. Overflowing trash, the worse though after being happy for a comfortable bed and sleeping all night was finding a used bandaid in our bed that was not ours.

The pictures of the hotel were very misleading. It looks like they're trying to redo the hotel but it still needs work. This hotel is a good hotel if you're looking for a place to stay while working in town. They do not have an elevator. Which will make it very difficult for anyone who has trouble carrying anything up the stairs. You can hear everything going on outside in the hallway and on the stairs. There were also very few outlets in the room. The outlet by the door seemed to turn off every outlet in the room, including the one the refrigerator was plugged into.

Staff

We were able to check in early, which was nice. TV and bathroom were outdated. There were two of us. I had to ask for a second room key and there were exactly two of each towel. Seemed a little stingy—a bit inconvenient if you want to take more than one shower. But it was fine for one night.

Check in was amazing and the staff were very helpful with our accommodations!

Would not stay here again. The gentleman who checked us in was extremely nice. That’s about all this place had going for it.
