Villa Tortorelli

The location was perfect and the staff were incredibly helpful. The swimming pool made a big difference in summer and we enjoyed the space and our private terrace.

Location was great and staff at the property were friendly and helpful We booked a room with a terrace that online looked bright and fresh. On arrival I was disappointed to find the room (#2) lacked natural light and was very, very dark. During the day we had to use the room lights which were over -bright and harsh and as a result of this the room did not feel warm or inviting at all. The terrace and bathroom were very tired and overall so were the parts of the property we saw - for the price - the room was disappointing. I did request a room move and understandably in high season this could not be arranged - so 3 days felt a long time in a room we did not like or feel comfortable in at all.

Absolute gem - such a nice oasis in Busy Florence nothing

The staff, Alice and Cathy, were great and made us feel very welcome. The pool is the big winner, and the location. And being in that private gated area felt very safe and secure. The arrival instructions about how to get the car inside and get it registered for ztl was extremely confusing and made the arrival quite stressful until Alice came to greet us. Facilities are pretty basic apart from the pool.

It's important to realise this is a bed and breakfast, not a hotel. Also the "suites" are not actually suites, they are just larger bedrooms, so there is no sitting/dining/kitchen area etc. Unfortunately the booking.com description is misleading, which is why I think visitors leave less than favourable reviews. Also there is a bit of pot luck around the rooms that you get, some guests were complaining they had small dark rooms, whereas ours was a bit larger but with zero privacy. There are some real positive points. The staff are absolutely superb (especially Alice and Katarina) - always polite and friendly, and always helping. They are a real asset to Villa Tortorelli. The pool is lovely, and was a welcome bonus after a long hot day walking around. The location is also good, with most things within 10 or 15 minute walk, but being set in a quieter part of the city. A lot of people complain about the codes that are needed for all of the doors (front gate, front door, room, pool etc), but we just made a note of all of the codes are on our phones and soon got used to it. The rooms are dated, with old furniture and uncomfortable beds. I appreciate they are trying to keep to the heritage look and feel of the building, but it needs refurbishing. Same goes for the handful of pool loungers, which guests joked about having to repair before using. Breakfast is really basic, and mostly sweet pastries. There was occasionally some yoghurt and granola, but that ran out on the first day and wasn't replenished. Coffee was good. If you are in a "suite", then it's apparently slightly larger than the other rooms, but downstairs next to the pool, so whilst lying in bed you can see people sunbathing (or rather embarrassingly for one guest - getting changed :-)) the other side of your bedroom window. There is very little privacy in those rooms.

A lovely small oasis in the heart of Florence. The room itself was stunning, decorated in a classic style with marble floors, chandeliers, and stunning Tuscan artwork (plus an excellent air conditioning system which kept the room comfortable despite it being 41° outside). The pool was also amazing, and kept to a lovely temperature, providing the perfect place to relax and take a break from the sun during the afternoon.

Everything was great. Great communication. Pool helped in the middle of a heat wave. Easy to walk to places and great all around location. Nice to be near the city but not crowded or overwhelming. Nothing, could have stayed longer
