The Librarian

I booked this hotel as I was in Ghent for a conference and wanted to keep costs low. I prioritized convenient location, price, and air conditioning, and the hotel delivered on these. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and it was great to have a minifridge even in a room this small. The location was fairly quiet but was only a short walk from a tram station as well as plenty of shops, restaurants, and sights. The "compact" room does indeed have a toilet and shower hiding in a closet, but they were perfectly sufficient for my needs. Arranging a late checkout was easy, and staff communication was great--not sure why other reviewers had issues, but if you use their WhatsApp you should get a speedy response. I would stay here again as a solo traveler. The location is not at all well marked, and my taxi driver couldn't find it and dropped me off at the top of the street. I had trouble finding it at first as well but finally saw the keypad for entry. There is no elevator, and the stairs are steep and narrow, making navigating them with even a rolling carryon something of a struggle. This room would be a challenge for two people as it is very small. The closet bathroom has sliding doors, so you can't have privacy in the shower because you can't open the sliding door from inside the shower. You also have to slide the door over the shower to use the toilet. This was fine for me traveling solo, but I wouldn't book a Compact room for 2 people.

Excellent location, comfortable bed. Only one side of the bed had a night stand. The cleaning utensils were stored right next to our room, so when the cleaner started early we woke up from the noise.

Room was ok, bed really comfy. We were on the top floor, so we also had a balcony. Overall OK. Location just perfect. The price could have been better, was a bit expensive for what we had. All other things OK.

Nice location close to the old town center. Polite and friendly housekeeping. We were told that we could store our bags at the property until check in time but the "virtual reception" system left us unable to contact a live representative to open the front door. Additionally, there are sensor operated lights in the bathroom that shut off after exactly 4 seconds, with no manual on/off switch. Finally, there was a minor mosquito infestation---spotting five/ten in the room each night.

Most comfortable bed I’ve had for under $1,000 a night in Europe. Location was great, easy walk to many shops, and public transport. Quiet of a night time. Room, while small, was very nice. Loved the window over the bed. Bar fridge was very useful. Lack of elevator was annoying for moving luggage. The self service set up isn’t for me. I prefer face to face and human contact. No reception, no greeting, no connection.
