Mad Monkey Gili Trawangan - Hostel

Great hostel located right in front of the beach, perfect for sunsets. The staff is really friendly and caring. The place is very clean and well maintained, the vibe is also super chill.

Staff went back on their words last minute for booking a horse cart for a solo female traveller. I had asked to book a cart a night ago and giving multiple reminders in the morning. Even after that the cart wasnt arriving. So I went and asked and thats when they said they dont provide any services for booking carts. My ferry got missed as I had to figure out things last minute.

It was a really nice and enjoyable hostel—we had a great time. The room’s AC was especially cold and perfect. If you want to socialize and meet new people, this is the place to come.

I had the worst case of bed bugs, really bad bites all over. The toilets were dirty all the time, the room was noisy, people there were noisy. It’s a party hostel, with you don’t care about sleeping and hygiene the location is nice.

The hostel has a great vibe and is located right next to the beach which is amazing. The staff was really welcoming and fun! Thank you Billy, Izzy and Ryan for making our trip so fun and memorable.

Bartender at night was really sweet Not worth the hype crazy expensive the AC wasn't working staff was mean and rude no one was helpful parties weren't even there being a weekend you can book a better stay nearby the harbour rather than going all the way to the other corner of the island

Chill happening hostel with a lot of activities and fun Room not even cleaned once. On asking for help with transport back to the ferry, the manager or staff just said you can ask outside and the gesture was not really warm

Food was great, plenty of options available and tasted fine. Teepee room had an airconditioner in it which made it very comfortable. Located in my opinon next to the best spot to view the sunset from the whole island. Staff were extremely friendly and inviting, if I was not travelling with purpose of meeting up with an external group I really would of liked to stay longer as they made a fun and safe environment at the hostel, people were all keen to interact and have a good time. This place is opposite to the jetty from where you arrive by boat so I recommend hiring an electric scooter to get to your accom if you are travelling light (avoid the push bike rentals all the push bikes suck). The pool water does not look inviting its murky so I avoided swimming in it. The showers are pretty rough but they stocked plenty of body wash. Think the teepee tent might be a bit overpriced for what it is comparatively on the island. Wifi was a bit hit and miss.

It’s an amazing hostel if you’re social and you like to make friends! They always organize so much activities that you can partake in, but you have to pay for some of them. The food is also amazing and not too expensive. The staff are so friendly and they always bring a good vibe no matter what! It’s on the opposite side of the island that has all the clubs and bars but it’s a 15 minutes bike ride so it’s not too bad We loved it!?

Nothing This was hands down the worst hostel experience I’ve ever had in Bali. From the moment I arrived, the staff made it clear that brown-skinned Asians – especially Indians – are not welcome here. The attitude from both the reception and bar staff was downright hostile, as if they’re offering charity instead of running a paid hospitality business. I initially thought I might be overthinking, but after checking online reviews, I realized I’m not alone. MANY others have experienced the same discrimination – it’s clearly a pattern. It’s shocking and disgusting to see such open racism in an Asian country, targeted at fellow Asians. If you’re Indian or have brown skin, think twice before booking this place. You’ll feel more like an unwanted burden than a guest. To make matters worse, the location is inconvenient and far from the port. Walking with bags is impractical, and you’ll likely end up paying for a horse cart that costs more than the hostel stay itself. Despite many Indians booking this place, it’s obvious the staff don’t want us there. If you’re heading to Gili T, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. No one deserves to be treated like this on their holiday

Some of them were the most disrespectful staff I have ever encountered before. Also if you don’t obey to follow their schedule of social games and beer chugging, you don’t get treated as an equal paying customer.

It was by far the best hostel we have stayed in so far. The staff are very nice and courteous. We even booked here a second time within two weeks.

I loved the pool, volleyball court, and the vibes. Mexican night and music quiz were quite nice. It’s very easy to meet people here and make friends if traveling solo. The restaurant menu is okay. Location is quite far from the port. If you have heavy luggage the only option is to use the horses which doesn’t feel right. I stayed in a 3 beds room. They could install curtains for privacy but there are none. Big lockers for each guest is okay. Mine was broken at the base, but it was safe anyway. They could improve cleanliness and facilities. Everything looks a bit old already.

Despite having our names on the list, it seemed they deliberately didn’t include us, which was very frustrating. The reception staff, especially a lady working there, was unprofessional and defensive when we asked any questions. There was also a guy named Dan who was rude and shouted at us, making the situation even worse. We felt uncomfortable and unwanted throughout our stay. The hostel itself was in a very poor state—dirty, unkempt, and nothing like the photos on Booking.com, which are clearly staged to attract guests. To make matters worse, the place felt unsafe. Our luggage was left unsecured, and we even felt that some staff members were supporting certain guests who were stealing from newcomers. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It’s a shame, because it could have been a great stay, but the lack of professionalism, poor hygiene, and unsafe environment ruined the experience for us.
