Excellent location, lovely walks and gardens, good parking. Large family room, great water temp and pressure. Good buffet breakfast. Attentive wait staff. Poorly maintained room (pealing paint & wallpaper, old chipped furniture with missing handles). Very dirty room window unable to open more than a few centimeters. Housekeeping service below standard (poorly made beds, a pile of linen was left outside our room for 2 days). Stained and torn dining area chairs and sofa’s. Inflexible kitchen staff unwilling to accommodate a food order 2 minutes after kitchen closing after having waited in the queue.

Beautiful faded Edwardian grandeur, very comfortable and lovely bathroom with a bath. Beautiful woodland walk on the doorstep and breathaking views of the estuary and the bay and a lovely walk down to the town along the prom affording fine sweeping views across the bay

Beautiful location with views over Morecambe Bay and easy access to the Lake District. What I liked most about the property was its beautiful Victorian architecture and character. The beach is only a 10–15 minute walk away. Early one morning, I went to the beach with my children, and we had the whole beach almost to ourselves. There was no one else there, which made it very peaceful and relaxing. My children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and we spent about two hours there having fun and taking in the scenery. It was one of the highlights of our stay.

parking adequate Decor of the building needs updating / a good clean. Breakfast was mediocre Most of the breakfast staff looked miserable, however the staff were happy to help you.

    nothing to dislike

I was upgraded from a single to a double room which had a tub and a lovely view of the bay. The bed was very comfortable, tea/coffee making facilities were great and bathroom clean with plenty of hot water. I liked that there was a key for the room and lockable from the inside. The room was ground floor with easy access to the lovely grounds, which were beautiful in the spring sunshine, trees, bluebells, primroses and birdsong. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

A number of minor maintenance issues in room

Great location and especially travelling with a pet It is what it is but the property needs a very expensive upgrade… a 100 year legacy of smoking lingers in the fabric of the building but this is not to downplay how good the service was

The location is stunning. The hotel is away from the road in woodland and so the only noise was birdsong. Being springtime there were lots of pretty wildflowers. Breakfast was very good. Drinks competitively priced for the area. Room clean and bed comfy. The paper in our bedroom was peeling a bit but not too bad. It didn't spoil our stay.

Staff was friendly, decent breakfast not too much to choose from. The property needs a huge clean/refurb. There was molding on the walls, window, bathroom shower.

Old facility, the bar and the dining rooms need to add more feeling of comfortable and modern.

  • Engine customer Oct 2025

Unfortunately, the bedroom was situated opposite the lift, which could be heard from the bedroom, disturbing sleep on a few occasions.

  • Engine customer Oct 2025

The room was very small and the bathroom was far to small and dangerous. Heater in bathroom was to near the WC and the shelf over the sink is an accident waiting to happen. The bathroom is far to small and dangerous the wall heater is to near the wc and one can catch your arm and get a sharp burn.

Lovely grand building, nice surroundings, 2 restaurants. Staff were so lovely and helpful. The room was better than expected. The only drawback was the soundproofing so you could hear every footstep and shout from the corridor at night. That is probably unavoidable in a big old building tho and no reflection on the overall quality. Also, I kind of hoped it was haunted.
