Very relaxing Onsen and very cute board game area and book reading area. The food was very delicious and we appreciated being served in our bedrooms. Indoor onsen was a little uncomfortable in terms of feeling of cleanliness. We wish there was more of an outdoor garden area that we could explore and relax.

Great onsens with milky, including private outdoors one It gives off retro atmosphere, if you like place which feel like they have history - this will be a nice match You get a proper yukata and a tea set, which adds to the vibe Given the place is old - some things were outdated: there aren't a lot of electrical sockets for charging, so if you're are traveling with a group, you can run out of sockets Also using mobile internet is preferred over hotel's WiFi

Everything! The vibe, the location, the onsen, and even the lounge feels warm and comfortable. The breakfast was awesome.

The overhead lighting/style of lightbulb was a bit harsh.

They accommodated my partner’s celiac disease and made everything gluten-free. Strongly recommend celiacs book this ryokan (just give them a head’s up first!)

A very cozy hotel with onsens on site. It has a bit of a 60’s or 70’s vibe. The cat theme was adorable. The staff were excellent and very attentive to our needs. The breakfasts were traditional Japanese breakfasts and prepared very well. Perhaps a few things could benefit from some renovation, but there was nothing we didn’t like about the property.

Beautiful traditional ryokan, highly recommend anyone to stay somewhere like this during your trip to Japan! There were two amazing private onsens and great facilities and food. Location was great, good restaurants and shops nearby and easy to bus anywhere

The hostel was clean, bathrooms and rooms were clean. That's good enough for me.! Regarding the question, Would I recommend this property as a romantic place to stay? I mean I think one can make anything romantic! Decorations, lighting, a little music in the background, anything can be romantic even a hostel! The free breakfast... Bummer, not much options. I had toast and that was all.

We had a great time here during our one night in Hakone. The stuff is very nice. We had one of the best sleep on futon’s ? and wonderful breakfast. We used private onsen, it was really relaxing after a long day. It might need some refreshment here and there, but nothing that will affect your stay

The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and warm. The food was unlike anything we have had, made with such love and attention…it was like art! Beautiful. We are so grateful. And we loved the kitties! Nothing. We loved it all

Although this was my fourth time in Japan, it was my first stay at a ryokan with hot springs. I loved everything about Mitake—the courteous staff, the food, the accommodations, the onsen, and the location. The dinner was delicious and plentiful, and I had the chance to soak in both the private and public onsens, both of which were wonderful with natural spring water. In the private onsen, you can adjust the water temperature to your liking. The room had everything needed, including dining utensils, and was decorated in a traditional Japanese style while still featuring a private toilet and bathroom. The ryokan is very quiet and peaceful, likely because it’s not as crowded as a large hotel. A bus stop is within walking distance from the ryokan. Highly recommended! Everything is nice

Very cute and comfortable ryokan. I liked the friendly staff, traditional vibe and host cats. Supper and breakfast were also delicious and good value but almost too much food so I'm glad we only ordered once of each. Hot spring facilities were clean and cozy. I got used to the sulfurous smell quickly but something to know before you book, this is a feature of the area.

The traditional rooms and the onsens were amazing! The inn is getting very tired, particularly the floors.

  • Engine customer Apr 2025

It was a spacious room with a private toilet and a very cute inn. The onsen did not look like the pictures and the lights in the private one did not turn on. Also, the communication at the beginning was confusing as no one was there to take our luggage.

First off: location is great, do the Hakone free pass, as soon as you get into Hakone yumoto go to gora, then ropeway, cablecar, eat a black egg from the top of the mountain (smell the Sulfur) and then go down in cablecar to lake aishi (do not have big lunch!!!!!) from lake aishi see the pirate shit but don’t take it, take instead the buss that will drop you in front of mitake, check in, there are 2 cats to pet, your room is classic and old style and your massive dinner will come at 5:30 and then eat at 6 in your own room, later you can enjoy your private onsen, is another world experience(sacrifice? You are getting the best value per money, but the ryokan needs a bit of love in the cleaning and improvement of small details here and there, maybe the food wasn’t hot enough) but the staff lovely again great location value for money considering others prices and location, next morning they will wake you up at 7 with your room set breakfast and after you are ready (check out at 10) from there take the same bus that got you there but in the oposite direction to lake ashi, now take the pirate shit and head to the other cost, you can walk to Hakone shrine if you lake explore the area and after that head to Hakone yumoto station or odawara depending if you taking romance car, or normal train. Good luck
