Himeji 588 Guesthouse – Hostel

Very close to himeji, tucked away in the shopping street. The owner speaks english and helped me with Japanese language. She also knows good locations near the hostel. The temp in upper beds was cool enough to sleep without issues. Showers are closed on certain period of the day which may be a problem to some.

Location is amazing between the station and Himeji castle, right on the shopping street. Still, the place was quiet at night and perfect for sleeping. It has a large common area, and the owner was really helpful in recommending places to visit and eat

The location was convenient. I didn't feel welcome nor comfortable there. I think the host meant well but she put up so many rules and notes that it made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. The place is plastered with notes what to do and not to do, including to flush the toilet.!?

It's a hostel, with basic accommodations. Location is near major attractions. Room was a little snug, and the Japanses style beds were just OK.

I really liked the location, it was very easy to get there from the station and it was also close to the castle We had a private room, but it was very noisy (above the kitchen and toilets, so it was hard to sleep). There was no kitchen for guests, and even the morning coffee had to be paid for. During a 40°C heatwave, when the government issued a heat warning, it was not possible to shower or use the air conditioning in the daytime, which made the stay very uncomfortable.

Got a bit warm/stuffy in the room at night, but that's Japan in August for you...

The owner was incredibly kind and the whole accommodation was comfortable. Take the owner up on her recommendation of almond butter toast at Nonnon. It will change your life!! Nothing :)

Nothing at all. Please stay away from them. The private room I booked was very small and on first floor. I had to carry my large suitcase via narrow stairs very difficult to climb. No bathrooms in the floor I lived and the mixed dorm was right next to my private room giving me less privacy. The appliances kept in the hostel was very dirty and very old. Also the people running this place are very rude and unaccomodating. There are far better places to stay in Himeji with better value for money.

Loved this property, the owner was very friendly. The social space is really comfortable and a nice touch. Nothing that wouldn’t be experienced in any hostel, people can be loud etc, someone decided to start playing the guitar at 1am, nothing to do with the host or the property just regular hostel things.

Room was fine - good size for 2 even when mattresses were laid out. Bathroom facilities were downstairs but no issue. Location was very good - right in a covered mall and close to all places we wanted to see. Handy to a range of interesting food places. It allowed us to tick off 'guest house' from our Japanese accommodation bucket list. We recommend this facility. Can only comment on the fact the bathroom facilities were down steep stairs but not a show stopper if you can manage steps.

We had a good time at this guest house, which has a great location, close to the train station and the castle, as well as friendly personal. They led us leave the luggage there for some time after check out for seeing the castle, which was nice, too. The equipment is rather classic like a hostel. The price was ok for Japan, but don’t expect south-asian hostel prices.

I only stayed 2 nights but it was a good stay! The only problem was the bed, a bit uncomfortable but other than that it was a good place. The staff was really nice and helpful

Nice place. Has fridge, showers, toilets. Always a little difficult in a dorm setup because you'll be disturbed by other residents, but it's otherwise great. The private shared room was used by my two female friends, travelling with me, no issues from them. Noise travels easily up the stairs from other residents not keeping to curfew, but not necessarily the fault of the property managers.

Really helpful and friendly host. Smart rules in place to make sure guests aren’t disruptive and that everyone can get a nights sleep.
