There was secure free parking. We had a nice view and balcony looking out at Hout Bay. The complimentary breakfast was very nice each day. The room was large and the tub a nice extra feature. Its a historic hotel with interesting photos. The bed was comfortable. Good fish restaurants nearby. Its right on the road to Chapmans Peak Drive. The location was a bit farther from Cape Town than we may have preferred, but is right on the water at Hout Bay. The pool was unheated in May. It was many steps up to get to it, not quite like it is seen in the photos.

The Hotel is perfectly sited for a commanding view of the beach looking across from the southeast, enjoyment of beautiful sunsets from hotel balconies, close proximity to beach bars and nearby international cuisine restaurants, and for short drives or walks to shops and markets. I have stayed at Hout Bay several times before but never at a finer location. The interior restaurant, bar and lounge areas have the paneled oak charm of a Victorian gentlemen's club and the elevated outside veranda area is a favorite place to pass an afternoon observing the local scene. Gated guest parking assures the safety of both you and your vehicle. The staff is very helpful and accomodating. Breakfast is cooked to order. Conveniently close to the airport, 35-45 minutes depending upon traffic conditions. The restaurant menu is rather limited and somewhat pricey compared to nearby restaurants such as The Beach Bar and The Dunes Beach Restaurant, both across the street and within easy walking distance. Dario's Cafe, a few minutes' walk away on the same side of the street, serves fine Italian cuisine at quite reasonable prices. Dario's wife is from Italy and runs the kitchen.

Excellent location, across the street from Kommetjie beach. We had a view of the sea and beach from our own private balcony. Staff were very friendly and the morning breakfast was excellent. The hotel also has secure parking. We would definitely stay there again. Room was quite hot in hot weather

Room and view were excellent. Its on a very noisy road, although when the room patio doors are closed it was quiet. But you dont want to spend time in you room with the door closed. The breakfast. No variety, the menu is the same every dat

Magnificent sea view with open skies, blue waters & mountain jutting into the sea. Spacious comfortable room with balcony. Very relaxing stay with chilled walk on the beach. Attentive staff Breakfast spread needs more variety

Stay was exceptional. I liked having sea view room. Made the stay so much more special. No WiFi access in breakfast area nor pool. Big downside.

Lovely old school hotel in a great location The car park was a bit dark and didn’t give a good impression compared to the very nice hotel itself

When we checked in, no one explained how to enter the hotel after the bar and reception close. My friends and I spent the whole day in Hermanus and returned to the hotel at 11:20 PM, only to find that we could not get inside. All doors were locked — both the main entrance and the side entrance. We rang the doorbell and knocked on the doors for about 10 minutes. How long do you expect guests to stand outside at night? Fortunately, my friends had rented nearby apartments and had a spare bed for me, so I had to spend the night there. The next morning at reception, I was told that we were supposed to manually slide the side doors open. And how were we supposed to guess that? You are absolutely obliged to inform guests in advance how to access the hotel after 11 PM and to provide clear, written instructions. What may seem obvious to you is not obvious to your guests. Additionally, during check-out they tried to charge me for someone else’s dinner bill. Apparently, another couple dined and simply gave my room number. Is this normal practice for your hotel? I was asked to pay solely because a charge was written under my room number in their logbook. That is not a valid argument — you need to properly verify room numbers to avoid situations like this. We spent about 30 minutes resolving this issue, while I was in a hurry to leave for the airport. In the end, a waitress confirmed that other people were actually at the table.
