Kanazawa Guest House East Mountain - Hostel

- it has all the facilities needed - REALLY good location - literally next to everything - tourists could say it's a "traditional" building, but it's just a hostel-made house from the Edo period - the Japanese owner was really nice and helpful whenever we needed him, a really talkative fella - free parking space BEHIND the house - beds are futon - i personally like it Equipment that's there and that's not: Shampoo/conditioner/soap: yes Towels: none / for 100yen one that's size of a palm Tooth brush or any small bathroom equipment: none (it's a guest house, not a hotel) - price is paid ON SPOT in CASH !!!! - the owner wasn't there with us, but he left his friend there for us that spoke no language but Mandarin. - He was always in the common area watching movies, and literally living there with us.making the common space unusable - the place is literally just to go to sleep at night, we cannot hang out in the house at all because of the guy (i don't know if he was just a guest or something, but he took the money and checked us in... Even talked to the owner in chinese.) - the bathtub is also unusable as it's missing a plug - when asked about it, the guy simply said "not for use" - shower use is limited until midnight - rooms look a bit unclean (nothing serious though, mostly just dust) -- paper thin walls (as expected of such a house - literally ZERO privacy) - there is no lock on the main door or anywhere else - on the last night, we think we found a bed bug (look-wise and for the fact that it released red liquid when squished) - I personally don't think it's an infestation, i couldn't find anything else apart from that one bug, it could have just been from the outside [attached photo] (To sum it all up, it wasn't that bad... It's actually enough for a budget stay with all the necessities. We just might not have been very lucky with the timing)

We were only here for one night. All the basic facilities you would need are present and they were clean and convenient. The staff who welcomed us was extremely friendly and polite. There was a constant light on outside our shoji door, as well as continuous activity in the kitchenette (also right outside the door) pretty late into the night. Both things made it really hard to get restful sleep. As a whole, the place was very nice and quaint, but because of the sleep difficulty, we would only return if we needed something very affordable and nothing else was available in the area.

I loved talking to the staff! They were so nice and easy to talk to. The shared space was a good area to talk to other lodgers and the staff. There are a few restaurants and convenience stores within a 5-10 minute walk. It was only a 10 minute walk from the chaya shopping street, but the garden and castle were kind of far to travel to to. There is a bus stop only a 2-3 minute walk from the building. The bedding was definitely thin and made it difficult to sleep. I also had some problems with charging my phone since I was on a top bunk. The bathroom and room is quite small, but that wasn't a big issue for me.

Nice traditional wood house - Nobody text me back when i asked to deposit my luggage before the check-in - i wait 1 hour over the check-in time - They charge me 100 ¥ for a towel big as a napkin - The bed was so hard, seems like sleeping on the floor - bathroom never cleaned, literally disgusting

Everything was alright The bed was too thin so I could feel the floor and the pillow not good

It's an old house, which has both pros and cons. The staff were friendly and helpful. The mattresses are much too thin, but luckily I had the dorm to myself so could use extra ones. The kitchen is basic; there were no spoons, for example.

It was cozy and the location was good, easy to get to places by bus. The aircon worked really well and it was peaceful to sleep. The size of the room was a bit small but overall the price was good for what you get. We didn't have much privacy because we were right next to the bathroom. Also the house was lacking ventilation, because it was very hot and smelled of food after people cooked.

The restaraunt and Onsen were nice, there was also a shuttle bus to the station in the morning. The dorm room with futons were just very thin futons in a big room. No privacy, dozens of people in the same room, hard to sleep.

Very old fashioned traditional townhouse. Small but lovely building. Tatami inside. I had the semi-private single room through the shared bunkbed room. I loved staying here. Friendly staff, but often absent. Since it's a small house with a decent amount of people staying it's not really possible to speak anywhere in the evening without disturbing the other guests. Phonecalls are unfortunately best held outside.

Traditional housing. Our room was noisy as it was situated right next to the livingroom where TV was on and people have been talking during the night. Also, I would appreciate better cleaning (e.g. the plughole of the bath tube was clogged).
