The place was cozy, clean, and busting with character. Ryoko took sick good care of us, and the breakfasts were amazing.

This was our favourite stay of our trip! The set up is amazing and provides a nice reprieve from typical hotel stays. It is a mix of ryokan authentic feel with the service of a hotel. Ryoko is the most gracious host! Breakfast every morning was exceptional and so special. The team at Angolo cafe were delightful! We had dinner at Origo one evening and it as the best meal we had in our trip (and we ate from fine dining to street food). We have been through Japan before and I have to say that this was a very special experience and I would book it again in a heartbeat. Nothing - some may find it a bit off the beaten path but we loved that and it was a great opportunity to get in some steps and live like a local.

Beautifully appointed, thoughtful touches everywhere and phenomenal service. We loved the location in a quiet neighborhood but within a 20-30 minute walk of Kanazawa’s main sites of interest. Ryoko, the manager of the hotel was so warm and extremely helpful. We had excellent breakfasts in the cafe and everyone on staff was super nice. nothing, everything was fantastic

Everything was perfect! The property was quiet and very comfortable. The coffee shop and breakfast were exceptional and the pastries and coffee divine. Our host Ryoko was amazing! She took care of all of our needs. Fantastic service.
-
By far the best hotel that we have seen in Japan. Very spacious, very tastefully decorated, extremely friendly service, wonderful breakfast, excellent location. We would have loved to stay longer!

Beautiful and comfortable room, excellent service, free washing, great breakfast and best coffee in Japan! I usually do not write reviews, but this property warrants it. Nothing

Ryoko our host was incredible, from meeting at the train station offering a free shuttle service, she was charming and incredibly respectful. The property is homely, warm and even more beautiful than the images. The property is super luxurious and stylish and restored to the highest level with outstanding traditional Japanese craftsmanship. It felt like we stayed in a property that would feature in a Kinfolk Magazine, that is how contemporary stylish and beautiful this charming property is. The zen like qualities made us feel calm and relaxed from the moment we stepped foot inside. Everything we needed to hand. The beds superbly comfortable with luxurious bedding. The bathroom stylish yet comfortable and luxurious overlooking the zen garden, having a soak in the temperature controlled bath tub was exactly what we needed after a long and exhausting journey. Ryoko offered a free laundry service. It was not only kind but very helpful. The breakfast served daily in Angolo Cafe situated at the front of the property was delicious. She kept the menu interesting with daily different offerings of outstanding quality food. The coffee is unbelievable! Even the WiFi was on point. We cannot recommend this property enough. We are so glad this was our first property and stay in Japan, best choice. Would stay here again. Location is perfect. 10 minutes walk from train station, 10 minutes walk to Omichi Market. Can’t fault anything.

We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the machiya is reserved for one family per night, meaning we had the entire space to ourselves. This made the experience feel even more private and relaxing. One of the highlights was soaking in the bath while gazing at a beautiful Japanese garden. What truly made our stay exceptional was the outstanding customer service. Our host went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and well taken care of. Her warmth and hospitality left us feeling completely relaxed and truly touched. This stay was worth every penny, and I can’t recommend it enough! I’ll definitely be back the next time I visit Kanazawa. Thank you for such a memorable experience!

Ryoko was an amazing host. She picked us up from the train station, and we had daily breakfasts hosted by her out of her cafe with unlimited espresso beverages :O On top of this all, we were there as a family with my toddlers and they were both smitten by her hospitality and missed her when we left Kanazawa. The hotel is a recently historic Japanese home which was a beautiful setting nestled next to a peaceful courtyard garden. We would love to come back!

This was truly the best accomodation we have ever stayed in and for sure the best during our 3 weeks travel across Japan. The accomodation basically consists of a two floored house (so much space is so rare in Japan), with a beautiful modern bathroom on ground level including a bathtube facing out to a wonderful zen garden. The main rooms are on the first floor with a massive living room, a tatami room and a bedroom with the biggest and most comfortable bed. All rooms were spotless clean, bathrobes and pyjamas were offered. The bedroom view and balcony to the zen garden outside created a lovely and relaxing atmosphere. One of the best things definitely was the breakfast which is provided in an extra breakfast room downstairs at the café (which you cannot here from the flat) - not only is the room beautiful and very special but the breakfast itself was absolutely delicious: every day different sorts of freshly baked bread, incredibel pastries (so pretty!), fresh fruit and vegetables created in the most delicious and delicate way. We couldnt have asked or wished for more. On top of all this is Ryoko as lovely, welcoming and very thoughtful and caring host (pick up service from the train station, extra blankets unasked when the weather turned colder). This accomodation made our trip to Kanazawa extra special and unforgettable! Nothing!

We visited Kanazawa purely to stay at Hotel 101. We were looking for traditional accommodation with some familiar creature comforts - and wow! This old Japanese house is very spacious, has been expertly restored and retains its exquisite features. The bed was the most comfortable we have slept in, the Japanese garden was delightful, and the bathroom and shower were perfect. Ryoko was a wonderful host and concierge, and helped us plan our trip so nicely. Breakfast was a real treat, and dinner at Origo (the restaurant downstairs) was a highlight. We felt very comfortable, relaxed and very well looked after - wish we had more time here! Two nights was not enough and we would love to come back.

Exceptional service, fantastic room- very large and impeccably clean with every item you could wish for.Breakfast was brilliant. nil

We could not have chosen a better place for our trip to Kanazawa. The apartment featured a modern yet traditional Japanese design, with the best cafe in all of Japan just downstairs. The photos don’t do it justice; it was truly one of the nicest places we stayed during our trip in Japan. Really nothing.

An incredible, intimate stay in Kanazawa. We were having trouble deciding where to stay in Kanazawa and picked Hotel 101 based on the looks, accommodating of 4 people, and strong reviews. It turned out to be one of our favorite, if not our favorite, stay across a month’s worth of luxury hotel and ryokans stays across Japan. Ryoko is a super-host who carefully takes care of all aspects of the stay. And what a gorgeously designed place, set on a quiet street that is walkable to all major attractions of the city. Would come back in a heartbeat if we’re in Kanazawa again. Thank you so much Ryoko + the rest of the cafe team, we will cherish the memory of our stay!
