Beautiful hotel on a quiet street in a great area. I appreciated the traditional Ryokan rooms, but large Western beds (the only King bed we had in Japan that was a single mattress). The hotel was very comfortable and serene the staff could not have been more helpful. A short walk to many major attractions. I would happily stay here again.

Exceptional hospitality from the front desk with a good grasp of English. Traditional Japanese luxury; tatami mat rooms (no shoes on), futon beds, nice space and living area. The best part was the traditional cypress wooden bath rub for soaking; it was huge, water temp was excellent as was the shower. Good privacy if staying with others. Also very quaint and quiet. It was very expensive for what it was, but we booked on the later side in the middle of Sakura season, so by comparison it was probably a deal. While safe and quiet - didn't seem to have a lot to offer, felt more like a local neighborhood. That said, we were only there for one night and it was rainy and a bit cold, so perhaps with more exploration we would have discovered the upsides.

Great decor. Beautiful. Room was not as big as I expected. No place to store luggage or unpack luggage due to tatami floor.
-
Well appointed, spotless, and simple but refined.

Nice staff. Excellent restaurant for a special meal. Beautiful rooms. Soaking tubs in both our rooms were nice.

Location was very good for seeing garden and museum. Cool and hip vibe. Need more towels without asking - room has a sauna so that is obvious.

Beautiful room with a lot of amenities and snacks! Amazing bath! Most importantly, the hotel staff was superb. Thank you!

Every staff member was extremely attentive, always very willing to assist, accommodating and polite. The room was immaculate! Breakfast was phenomenal. There was absolutely nothing I did not like. Junei is fantastic!

We loved the coziness and room aesthetic with the tatami mats and the king size bed and the large wooden bath. There was mold on the ceiling where the bathtub was located.

Extremely polite and accommodating staff, very thoughtful meals as well

Incredible hotel! It should be 5 stars! Very friendly staff, gave us gifts for our honeymoon. Beautiful rooms, extremely comfortable beds and we loved the bath! Its 5 mins walk from a train station. 100% recommended.

We liked the quiet location and while everything in the central areas were a bit of a walk or uber drive it wasn't a deal breaker. The accomadations are nice and the staff friendly, but that is what we experienced throughout all of Japan. Therefore, we didn't think it justified the high price. Yes, you get free drinks but it's also easy to get that from a local store yourself. Most of the hotels we stayed throughout Japan was just as large and had the same amenities but the others were much cheaper per night.

Beautiful design, exceptionally maintained

Incredible staff - so helpful and kind. They helped with any restaurant recommendations and bookings without hesitation, and made sure I was okay when I wasn’t feeling well. The room itself was really spacious and clean. It felt more like a suite than hotel room. Complimentary minibar, coffee and premium teas to cap off.

Stayed at the Junei twice. First room layout wasn't the best; second room was much better (less wasted space). Hotel is a in very quiet neighborhood. Learned it - whenever a hotel shows you a room with paper covered windows in their online portfolio. It means your room or in this case bath room looks out to something not so great. Hence all natural light is covered. Only natural light comes from the bathroom; the room itself has no window. We stayed at 2 more hotels in Kyoto and Nara - and all of them had a decent view. One of them had a fantastic view.

Unique! Rooms and bathrooms are spacious done in Japanese style. Do not miss the breakfast. Its Japanese style and wonderful. Staff is very courteous. Metro stations are close by. Very walkable neighborhood.
