The hotel was upscale, unique and very generous with the amenities. They offered many wonderful snacks and a private open bar for guests (Free!). For us, the private Nintendo library brought it above and beyond. The staff was incredible and flexible with housekeeping scheduling. The room was extremely spacious. The bed was very comfortable. The whole place was welcoming and our favorite of the four hotels we booked in Japan. The room had some wear on the walls and furniture. The location was a little bit of a walk from the train - about 20 minutes. The room had a toaster oven and not a microwave while most quicker meals we grabbed from the combini were suited for the microwave but not the toaster oven so that was a small issue for us.

Very nice property with incredible staff and amenities including a free bar and lots of snacks in room and lobby. We found it to be a very lovely place to stay. No complaints. It is unique and cool and staff is amazing.

How personal it was

Rich with history in a beautiful city! We loved our stay with the team at Marufukro. As big fans of Nintendo and the history of video gaming it’s a must for all gamers. Special thanks to Kosuke San for giving us the tour and some family history on the founders of Nintendo. There is food and drink for free with delicious treats such as mochi balls and miso butter cake. The city is great with so many things to see and do in the local area, lots of beautiful shrines and not far from Kyoto central either. There is a coin op laundry down the road which we used so that’s great for convenience but hotel also offer a laundry service. VISIT THE LIBRARY!! If we had to say a less positive thing, leaving the room key at reception but it’s not a big deal at all.

The history of the property, access to public transportation and superb staff all contributed to an incredible stay.

Beautiful and historical. Comfortable and spacious. Staff is amazing. Good location. Breakfast should be included, esp given how the bar is unlimited ?

This was our favorite hotel that we stayed in while traveling Japan. The style is very unique and the rooms feel cozy. The staff went above and beyond for us in several cases. We typically avoid staying at the same hot twice but we will be coming back the next time that we are in Kyoto. Nothing!

This is uniquely beautiful place in Kyoto. It’s is a quiet street and hosts are just the best anywhere. There isn’t much I dislike. My only request is last time I visited they had this amazing breakfast CASA, I loved it so much it they have replaced it with more of a dining table service. I really loved the old way and a major reason why I booked here again!

Had a wonderful stay at the Marafukuro.

Everything was truly exceptional, from the hotel's amenities and the spacious, comfortable room to the delightful staff. We felt incredibly welcomed. I would also like to express particular appreciation for a male staff member, who wore glasses, and who assisted us in the morning with our check-out and continued to help us until we were in our Uber. His service and amiable demeanor were truly outstanding.

Marufukuro is by far the best accommodation experience we've ever had. Absolutely the highlight of our time in Japan. Whether it's the history surrounding the building, the beautiful and convenient location, the amazing amenities, or the extraordinary staff, there is so much to love and appreciate about this place. I stayed here with my now fiancée and prior to my stay I worked with the staff to plan my proposal at this hotel. To say they went above and beyond is an understatement. Thanks to them, absolutely everything about our stay and the proposal was simply perfect. I can not even begin to thank all the staff at Marufukuro enough for everything they did to make our stay truly special. We will definitely be staying here again in the future!
