Ranzan Hotel

Location is very nice and secluded. The staff and facilities are great Bathhouse is a little small, but it is not very busy.

Wonderful location, very friendly staff, clean hotel and amazing restaurant.

Rooms look a little old

We weren't allowed to use the public bath because we have tattoos. Plus whatever cleaner they used in the room made our allergies flare up pretty badly.

In the center of everything Elevator area carpet very stained

We weren't able to try their food, sadly.

The river and it's scenic hills are right next door, as are various temples and some really nice restaurants. I needed to take a taxi to get to the main station because I had a lot of bags, but that was well worth the cost as part of staying in this magical area of Kyoto.

The property location was superb. It was located close to the train station, right at the river and near the bridge. The access to the bamboo forest was right around the corner, all the shopping was right there, the rickshaw (which I highly recommend) was next to the hotel. There were gardens, river walk, river boat ride options, monkey park and this really cool Buddha statue garden all within a short walking distance. The hotel staff was very accommodating. Our garden view was gorgeous with mature maple trees with the fall colors. I can’t say enough about this property. The only complaint about the property was the smoke smell. On a couple days the lobby had major cigarette smell. I’m just sensitive to it. Other than that the property was amazing!!

My sister and i checked in on september 6th. First and foremost I must exclaim the Ranzan had an amazing staff! Hello to Rika!! Service was above and beyond. Loved the breakfast served at Ranzan, we made a reservation the day before breakfast. The location of hotel is unbeatable. Aside from everything else being amazing, the light in the room was a little bit too fluorescent for me

Location very good. Room okay. Hotel okay No washing machine. Town falls asleep before 430. Poor Air conditioning. Room smelled like BO

Excellent location, very clean and peaceful Ranzan. Temples, bamboo forest and monkey mountain in walking distance. Easy connections with metro and JR trains

Location atmosphere great.

Near the hotel there are beautiful temples, an art museum, a bamboo forest, a kimono forest, Japanese macaques in the forest, a street with souvenirs and delicious food.

Location is great. Staff is friendly The hotel turned out to be very old. After I took a bath, the floor was flooded with water. The bed, and super thin pillow on it, were very uncomfortable, I slept poorly. The view was completely different from the picture

The location was excellent right by the river and just few blocks from all major attractions such as the bamboo forests, temple, and the main street. The property while old was well maintained especially the garden and tatami rooms. The food was just not that good despite having all its formality of onsen meal so if having the best onsen meal is the goal, this isn't it. We had the traditional tatami room which was lovely looking into the garden but I don't recommend any western rooms as they looked so dated and hardly an experience, especially for Arashiyama.

Fantastic location! The Japanese breakfast was a bit challenging.
