The place is squeaky clean and well appointed. The room was a good size and set up very comfortably. The location was amazing. But best of all was the staff. Super friendly, all speaking good English and going above and beyond to help with anything, from restaurant recommendation and booking at the last minute to practical tips and directions. I liked everything!

This hotel exceeded all expectations and is truly one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. From the moment you walk into the lobby it smells amazing and feels welcoming and stylish. At check-in we received tokens for a complimentary cocktail or wine which was a very thoughtful touch. The room was beautiful in a Japanese style, very cozy and perfectly designed. The bed was large and extremely comfortable with high quality cotton bedding and we slept incredibly well. The pillows were also super comfortable, which is very important to me, so I really appreciated that. The location is excellent with many unique and great restaurants nearby. A special thank you to the hotel manager Alex, his service was outstanding and the fastest and most attentive we have ever experienced. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this hotel. If it were possible to give 100 stars, I absolutely would. Best of the best.

The room was fantastic! It was huge with a lovely balcony, sitting area, space for our suitcases and clothes, and a spa like bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and breakfast was our choice - service downstairs or in our room. The food was delicious and well worth the cost of the breakfast. We extended our stay for 2 extra days since we were so comfortable in the room. Alex, the concierge, was fantastic. He arranged to ship our luggage for us and to have it arrive at a set time. He helped us find special souvenirs and restaurants. He was even a delight to just talk to for a little bit. We even got complimentary drink tickets to enjoy at the bar. The hotel is in a quiet area and only a short walk to the main market/shopping areas. There are only 12 rooms, so they know who the guests are that are staying there and personalize your trip. Alex extended our stay by 2 days and even gave us a discount versus the online prices we found. Travelers should be warned that it looks like you are just entering a small bar when you enter the hotel building. It is away from the main traffic, by just a couple of blocks, but the neighborhood is extremely safe. We were tired and frustrated by the time we arrived and did not realize the hotel concierge desk was past the bar.

Room was spacious, bed comfortable, kept clean daily. Location is excellent, close to everything. Alex went above and beyond to help us with restaurants reservations. The entire staff was helpful. We loved everything about our stay in Villa Sanjo. Communication with some staff members can be a bit challenging at time. They try their best.Being patient helps.

The hotel was amazing! One of the best one we have been in Japan Great convenient and location right in the center but also in a quiet street and also super clean. The staff was super helpful and attentive.

Alex was exceptional. The central location could not be beat. The room was gorgeous and quiet. I am really sensitive to noise and could not hear any disturbances or other guests.

The bakery next door is also spectacular! The location is very walkable to the market but it can take time to get to some of the temples in Kyoto.

Room was spacious and well appointed. Enjoyed the large round tub in the bath. Treated so well by Alex the manager and Mamiko who tended the bar. Breakfast was wonderful. I have nothing negative to say.

This hotel is delightful and the staff, particularly Alex, are incredibly attentive. They went out of their way to find reservations for us at restaurants when they were hard to come by and accommodated each and every request we had. The hotel is also quite central and easy to reach from the metro. The breakfasts brought to your room are also among the finest we've had. We arrived during a torrential downpour and thunderstorm which made initially locating the hotel a challenge but that is no fault of the hotel's.

I really loved this place. The rooms were huge. The service was outstanding. Once of the best places to stay in Kyoto. Absolutely recommended.
