Transport outside of Gion can be tricky and many timea you'll have to walk to some other bus station o train station. Also during summer some nights feel like a sauna inside the room haha
-
If I had to nitpick, our room's changing space did not have any place (hooks etc.) to hang clothes from while changing.

Awesome ryokan-style hostel with incredibly helpful staff, we were three international friends coming for a two-night visit in Kyoto and the traditional style room with futons on tatami was absolutely perfect thanks to the AC! Thank you so much to Irem, who provided precious advice for organising our visit and with whom I wish we could stay in touch!

Excellent location, we had room with private bathroom traveling with two teenagers.
-
The shower takes a bit to heat up
-
affordable, excellent location, cozy rooms with traditional japanese furnishing and design bathroom facilities were shared (though for the price we paid it was to be expected)

The location is unbeatable! We loved the traditional feel and the garden outside the window. We went as a family so we had a private room with a private bathroom. The facility is so clean. It has an area to eat. The staff were very nice and helpful. Just note if you arrive earlier than 3 there will be no one to help you. We arrived like 40 minutes early so we did not mind waiting and taking a break from walking. We took a taxi first day but there is a nearby bus stop that we used many times after. There is plenty to do in the area and all the major Gion shrines are nearby. They have a washer and dryer and their dryer was the best out of 3 that we used for our stay. I would highly recommend this place! Nothing everything was amazing!

The location is right next to 高台寺and very close to 清水寺 which was very convenient. There is a person on duty at night, so it was easy to check in after hours.

very clean, lots of room in the bunk bed, very pleasantly surprised by the good vibes of the place.

The property was very cute and clean. It was cool to stay in a traditional style hotel and the location was perfect. N/A

Pretty much everything Nothing

Good common areas It’s a glorified hostel. Lots of people sharing rooms and facilities
-
It’s in the heart of the Gion district and close walking distance to everything. I love the traditional aspect of the property. Nothing.
-
Fantastic location and wonderful vibes. Very clean and spacious. I’ve never stayed in a more comfortable hostel. The beds are not connected to each other so you don’t feel the person below you moving about. It feels like you have your own a little room rather than just a bed in a dorm.

Right in the middle of the historic Gion neighborhood, very clean and convenient with traditional tatami mats and futons. The staff were amazing - very kind and helpful.
-
The location was quite central to many things in Kyoto. The area was quiet, but there were lotsof things nearby. It was a hostel and was very clean. The staff was wonderful. Nothing really. Everything was great!

I absolutely loved being immersed again in a traditional Japanese house, it gave the whole trip a more authentic and cultural feel that you just can’t get from modern hotels. The neighborhood was another highlight for me. It was incredibly quiet and peaceful, making it the perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring. At the same time, the location was very convenient, as it’s close to several popular tourist spots in Kyoto, which made getting around easy and stress-free. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely love to experience it again in the future. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a cozy, traditional, and well-located place to stay in Kyoto. While my overall stay was enjoyable, there were a couple of downsides worth mentioning. The cold water took quite a long time to warm up, especially at the sink/lavatory, which was a bit inconvenient. Additionally, the walk to and from the main road or the property itself can be a bit of a distance. It’s still manageable, but something to keep in mind, especially if you’re carrying luggage or coming back late at night.
