The host was very attentive to my needs and always greeted me at the entrance or at my room in the morning before leaving for the day. I felt like I was staying with my relatives! 10/10 I couldn’t stay forever

The host was amazing, greeted us every day of our stay. Super polite and hospitable. The entire location was cozy and beautiful.
-
It is not a disadvantage but it is a small hike to the nearest subway. Bus is easily accessible though.

Located on a historic street, the woman who runs the ryokan was incredibly hospitable and enthusiastic. The facilities were clean, and while the showers are shared there are few rooms so waiting for availability was never an issue. Be sure to try the breakfast, as it was incredible.

Historic ryokan in a beautiful and peaceful area of Kyoto. The host was so warm and welcoming, and I loved the hot baths at the end of each day.

The hostess was so very gracious, she answered questions and seemed always available. Our room was spacious and we had a nice view of a garden. The beds were comfortable and our stay felt very special. Booking.com had the wrong address.

the place is very centrally located and i found it very easy to get around - it's in such a quiet part of town and really contributes to a relaxing stay. it was so cool to stay in a traditional setting and the host made sure my stay was comfortable! the japanese breakfast was amazing, definitely add it as part of your experience!

Breakfast was perfect! Traditional Japanese food with lots of things to try! Experience that is must do! NA

I wanted to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan on my first trip to Japan. Inakatei was wonderful: beautiful little garden, tatami mats in my room, great location near many temples and shrines. The bed could have been more comfortable (it was three thin mattresses piled on top of each other). There is very little storage for clothes, but I just kept most things in my suitcase.

This place has been a ryokan for 200 years. It has charm, warmth, and history. For a westerner it may not have the amenities that are common to us, but that is not the reason for going here. It is a unique experience and it is highly recommended if you are looking for that. Our 'room' was a three room 'apartment' with a living room, bedroom, dining room, and toilet. The host is attentive, helpful, and unobtrusive at the same time. She showed up when we came back for the day and wondered if she should tap a bath for us and served an excellent breakfast in the morning. Nothing

A very gracious host. The place is the real thing, very traditional, (and I lived in Japan for 4 years, so I know what I am talking about) gorgeous rooms, great Japanese garden, hot bath run for us every night, delicious food, and the inn has been in the same family for centuries. Almost all the extras, like the special dishes were specialties of Kyoto, and the hostess was super friendly, and very knowledgeable about local things to see, with smart recommendations, off the beaten path. I should mention that I speak fluent Japanese, so I learned a lot more than you would if you didn't, but she seems to have lots of experience with foreigners who do not speak Japanese. Yes, it was expensive, but if you want the real thing, in a choice, traditional area, I guess that is what it cost. There was nothing not to like here. I guess if I was searching for *something* I would mention that if you stay in the "villa" which is a converted teahouse, the step down out of the room is a bit uneven, so not great if you have balance or mobility issues. The other rooms seemed to be all upstairs at the main building, so if you have limited mobility, that again might not be perfect. Anyway, the place is great.

True Japanese experience! Loved the room setup, the bath, and the quiet location in Gion.
-
It was beautiful and serene. I am grateful and immersed in the privacy of the stand alone villa. I like the cleanliness and the simplicity of antiquated furniture and decor. The Yakata was beautiful clean and fresh. Quite rustic and minerally in smell. room could use a deodorizer.

The woman who managed the ryokan was very sweet and friendly! She always checked in on us when we came back to the ryokan. The ryokan was also super well located and the ryokan is reportedly 200 years old or so- felt very authentic! The price for what you get is very high.

we had a wonderful visit to Kyoto and the Ryokan Inakatai was a big part of that.

Absolutely wonderful! So close to everything also. Felt so welcome!!!
-
It’s a 200-year old property in the most charming neighborhood in Kyoto Nothing. This place was excellent

I usually don’t write reviews but I wanted to for this place - so awesome! Book it! I liked it all

This quaint historic building is a generational-family-run ryokan. It’s nestled in a quiet neighborhood. The toilets are very modern and clean! The cotton and down futons are extremely comfortable! It feels like sleeping on a cloud. It was the best sleep I’d gotten during the whole time I was in Japan. They provide fresh towels and robes daily. The view from our room was incredible! The inn-keeper and staff are friendly and welcoming. I hope to be back soon! The shower/bath tub is in a separate building, but it’s part of the authentic experience. You get to walk in the traditional wooden slippers!
