Location was great. Close to shopping, a short walk to the start of temple row. Right on the subway line. Modern yet traditional Japanese hotel. Hot baths on the top floor. Clean tatami mat floors and futons that were reasonably comfy. Mr Tanaka, at the front desk was so helpful. Many thanks to him. The rooms didn’t accommodate many large bags. That required a bit of space juggling.

The hotel is very nice and we enjoyed the Japanese style room. The futon was a little uncomfortable for my back but I just pulled an extra one out of the closet and added it and that made it very comfortable. The room was large and attractive. We really liked the bathroom which had lots of hot water and a comfy shower. The staff were attentive and helpful. The location was great with a subway right outside the entrance, lots of food nearby and the room was still very quiet at night.

Very good hotel. Nice amenities, comfortable Japanese futons (ive had bad experience with futons but the futons are comfy here!), comfortable public baths, good location too. I love that the hotel is also newly renovated!

Beautiful modern ryokan style hotel in a very convenient location. Rooms have a traditional feel but with all the modern conveniences. Tatami rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Futons are plush and not too firm. Located right across city hall and just on the fringes of the high tourist traffic areas so it is very close to shopping and all the restaurants but without having to fight the crowds to get out the front door. Multiple subway entrances are right out the front door making it easy to commute anywhere in Kyoto. There are public baths on the upper floor for hotel guests, which are in a very tranquil setting.

The volume of the hot water in the bathroom sinks was very low (just a trickle). The bed and pillow were on the hard side.

Location and cleanliness. It was very quiet and peaceful. The onsen was clean and bedding was comfortable. Sinks were a bit shallow.
-
Great location- right in front of the subway station but still walkable to Nishiki market. We also walked back from Kiyomizu-dera temple through Gion, enjoying the sights in between. Also a traditional feel to the room with tatami mats and beds on the floor which the kids enjoyed. Was comfortable without being fussy. On a main road, and there’s a hospital nearby so a few ambulances went by overnight which did wake me up briefly. If I had my earplugs, I would’ve been fine, so I wouldn’t say this was a major deterrent.

The Japanese breakfast was beautiful

Very nice experience: the Japanese setting of the rooms, the sense of privacy at the hotel and the professional staff contributed to make our stay a memorable one. Great Location, just in front of Honnoji temple and walking distance to many shops and restaurants.

Beautiful, spacious rooms

Beautiful hotel right in the centre of Kyoto and walking distance to everything central Kyoto has to offer. Train station is a few minutes walk and bus stop and taxi rank right around the corner offering easy access to all the sight seeing spots. The staff was super friendly and could communicate in English. The hotel room and all other facilities were very clean and well maintained. Traditional Japanese room was beautiful and fitted our family of four comfortably. The view from the room was great. The onsen on the top floor is a bonus and very relaxing with great views of Kyoto. Would highly recommend. Everything was perfect!!

A wonderful stay at Hotel Honnoji! Excellent bathhouse facilities, a very clean and comfortable room, and very convenient location. Also, the meal experience was absolutely wonderful! There was nothing that we did not like!
-
Great service and convenient location. The staff are especially courteous. We also enjoyed the traditional set dinner and breakfast. The public bath on the 9th floor is spacious and clean, with exceptional views
-
Lovely onsen, clean and well maintained. Nice top floor. Some travelers don’t respect onsen rules and get in without showering or disrobing. It’s rude and gross.

Was great for hosting a family of 4. Loved the baths - very clean. Looked like the photos.

Breakfast was really delicious. Love the included Yukata rentals. Service was very good, very attentive. Live cockroach in the spa area for women’s. It was trying to get into the wet areas.

Onsen was lovely, my favorite was the open air one. Not crowded at all. We reserved one morning for breakfast and it was amazing, one of the highlights of our Kyoto trip. Convenience store downstairs was perfect and luggage services were great. Subway super close. My only regret was not going to the temple behind the hotel. Different sizes of slippers for rooms! My feet are US 11 women's and when I went to the staff to ask for slippers they only have the one size for the tatami room so I had to just wear clean socks on the tatami. I would bet money on if there are foreigners; like men or women with larger feet than me and they tried to wear those slippers they would not have fit and some bare feet have been on tatami lol. I don't mind but I would assume others would.
