Wonderful location

Clean and friendly staff
-
location very old and dirty - everything , uncomfortable sleep mat. I have slept on traditional Japanese sleep mat before, it was very comfortable. The room, blankets and mats had an “old moldy” smell. I couldn’t wait to check out and move to the next hotel.

It’s a bit old and needs updating, but it’s clean and the staff is trying their best.

The public bath was a huge bonus I hadn’t quite counted on enjoying as much as I did. Perfect place to unwind after a day of walking. The welcome drink station was a nice sprinkle of hospitality. Access to more pillows in the room (we should’ve asked)

The location is so close to Kyoto station therefore you have easy access to a lot of destinations. They have great amenities. The public bathhouses were nice and a good experience. The room was lovely and the futon was cozy. There was a small tear in the wallpaper of the room’s private toilet.

Excellent location with many restaurants, train station, observation tower and a large temple within easy walking distance! The breakfast was huge with lots of variety! I really liked the attention to detail and the staff are friendly and helpful. They offer a verity of free beverages, even beer! Do the communal hot bath and wear your kimonos for breakfast! Here are excerpts taken from my book, “Best Latin America and Asia Vacations”: “I wanted to stay at lest one night in a traditional Japanese inn called a ryonkan. They are basically just empty rooms made up of straw mats, and thin futon mattress floor bedding. They also include a choice of a kimono (a traditional Japanese robe), a dinner and/or a breakfast with a communal hot pool. It was a nice multiple story building and we got two rooms, one for Nadia and I and the other for the kids. First thing in the morning I decided to do it! After initially deciding not to do it the day before, I talked myself into it. I’m here now and it will be my only chance ever to experience another Japanese tradition: a communal hot bath–and you go naked. There was a separate one for men and women down in the basement. As I entered, there was a sign with instructions on how to do it: you first have to wash and rinse yourself off before you get in." Read our epic 2-week family adventure across Tokyo and Kyoto in Japan, and exploring Bangkok and Phuket islands in Thailand at amazon.com/gp/product/B0GS5M78XB The thin traditional floor shikibuton/futon mattress--it was hard for me to sleep because I was not use to it (but not the hotel fault). However I wish they had an optional latex memory foam padding to place under it would make people happier and more restful the next day! :-)

I would have appreciated clearer information about the availability of meals.

Our stay was exactly what we expected and wanted. The room was very big with lots of space. The futons were comfortable after a 2nd one was added. The extra futons and pillows were in our room so you can add if needed. Toiletrie bags are given in the room and replaced when needed. Breakfast was great. So much food. We truly enjoyed our breakfast every morning. The public baths were nice after a long day. The laundry was fine. It costs 300¥ for the wash with detergent. The dryer was 100¥ per half hour. The dryer didn't dry very well so we just hung some clothes in the room with no issues. Location was amazing. It was barely a 5 min walk to the Kyoto Station. With a few day trips planned this was important for us. I would definitely stay here again next time we are in Kyoto.

The price is great, the location is perfect, very close to Kyoto station, 7/11 near by. We took a private room. It was clean and very nice. The room is designed in a traditional way, we were three friends and had plenty of space for our belongings. We enjoyed the public bath at evening time and used the free yukatas the place provided. The bath was clean and calming and the yukatas were very comfortable. Free drinks at the lobby, option to fill water. The staff was kind and helpful. When we sow something is not working in the toiled, a staff member immediately came to the room to see and tried to fix it. Conveniently, we were able to leave our luggage after check out and until we went to our next destination. We definitely recommend the place and hope we could come back again! Even after the staff member tried to fix it, the toilete water kept flushing after everytime we flushed. It didn't bother us a lot so we forgot to tell them again, we just closed the water by hand. If you like to sleep on a hard mattress - it is perfect and very comfortable to sleep in the traditional way. One of my friend prefer a soft mattress and she wasn't very comfortable.

The staff were very accommodating when I was confused about dinner. They are very nice people who really made our stay memorable. I will be recommending them to everyone If you are unfit it can be difficult to reach the hotel by foot. There is no way to get there by car although there are roads. You must be sure to ride the cable car before the last scheduled trip up the mountain
