The place is great for experiencing traditional Japanese hotel accommodations (Ryokan). My wife loves the place. They even asked us to wear Kimono before we check out the next day. Definitely we will come back if possible. None so far.

This place is so wonderful in every way; easy to find, secluded from all the hustle and bustle of the city. The folks who run it are amazingly friendly, courteous and helpful. the room was large, bedding very nice and more than I expected when I booked. The traditional Japanese breakfast was unbelievable! They arranged an Onsen for me which was amazingly relaxing. You will not be disappointed in any way! 10/10 NOTHING!!

Very traditional and cozy N/A

I hit my head on the roof beam once, but alas I am tall and this is Japan.

The only highlight of this stay was the delicious breakfast. While I had high expectations for this place, the experience was disappointing. I expected a warm, personal ryokan stay, but it felt more like a small hotel managing too many guests for the space. The staff were unfriendly and inflexible about luggage storage and breakfast timings, which affected our travel plans. The rooms were also very small and lacked basic amenities like a bidet and body lotion. Overall, it was not worth the price, especially since we had a far better and more authentic ryokan experience at a different state.

It was so friendly and the owners were the sweetest people in the world. I want the best for them. Nothing, it was perfect.

The owner was very nice, lent us an umbrella!

Family owned, quiet, and a great breakfast

The location is close to the station yet you feel like you’re in a totally different different world. The host although his English is limited was incredibly kind. Bedding and pillow were comfortable. It was easy to book a private onsen. Owners offer kimonos to try on for photo op ( in house only). The last morning after our Japanese breakfast we got a chance to learn calligraphy. We stayed 3 nights and by the third morning I was really getting used to Japanese breakfast! Spending so much time on the floor wears on a + 60 yr old body , but absolutely everyone should experience a ryokan! With the futons on the floor there really wasn’t much space but again that is to be expected in Japan

The friendliest hosts! Beautiful and cozy ryokan experience in bustling Kyoto, only 10 minutes to Kyoto Station. Curfew stopped us from enjoying some late night offerings in Kyoto.

Charming building and host. Comfortable Japanese-style room. Close to Kyoto Station.

Staying at Ryokan Shimizu was an excellent, authentic, and cozy experience in Kyoto! The owners were very warm and helpful, and it felt like they welcomed us into their own home. I highly recommend the breakfast, which was authentic Japanese style and was fresh and tasty. We also used the private bath, which was clean and very peaceful. We really enjoyed our stay!

Amazingly beautiful and tasty Japanese Breakfast. Cozy accomodations, pack smart and don't bring huge luggage. Friendly owners. About 10 min walk to Kyoto Station. It's a perfect japanese sleeping arrangements for anyone who is not taller than 5' 10". The blankets may be short for a taller traveler.

I loved the accomodations. Wooden floors. Bed and breakfast style home. Bed was Japanese style without a bed frame but extremely comfortable.

The owners were incredibly kind. They made us feel like they really wanted us there and wanted us to feel at home. They even had tea in our room for us! They also took our picture at the end of our stay so we could keep the Polaroid as a souvenir.
