The dtaff was awesome! The breakfast was prepared and presented beautifully. Nothing negative about our stay.

This was our favorite hotel in Japan. Customer service and staff was more than expected. Our room was also quite spacious and the included breakfast was delicious. The location is literally in the heart of Gion. We had to checkout early on Monday and the staff actually packed our breakfast into a bento for us to take along. We would definitely stay again next time we visit Kyoto.

Great location. Very quiet. The breakfast is amazing. The staff is very professional. I highly recommend it. Nothing

Exceptional hotel with spacious rooms, outstanding service, generous complimentary amenities, and a wonderful traditional Japanese atmosphere. The location is quiet yet only minutes from Kiyomizu-dera and Yasaka Pagoda. The in-room soaking bath, public bath, lounge snacks, and excellent breakfast made this one of the best hotel stays I have ever had. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Exceptional value, spacious rooms, and a peaceful location, yet only a short walk from Kyoto’s major attractions, shopping, and dining. The perfect balance between tranquility and convenience. Honestly, very little. If I had to be picky, the hotel still uses a traditional physical room key, so you either have to carry it with you or leave it with the front desk when going out. The hotel is also not particularly close to a subway station, although several bus stops are within a short walk. The staff’s English was good enough for communication, but not as fluent as at some larger international hotels. Also, breakfast is a traditional Japanese set meal rather than a Western-style buffet. While I enjoyed trying it once, travelers looking for a larger buffet selection may prefer other options.

So impressed with the beautiful hotel and the staff, who could not have been more accommodating.

Great bath. Hinoki wood. Smelled wonderful and could really relax. Room was great. Dinner was not worth the money (especially after having a kaiseki dinner at a true ryokan) and I didn’t care for being referred to ‘western restaurants’ instead of eating their Japanese breakfast.

The trace in my room. The green surrounding. The stuff was extremely local and it was impossible to communicate with them. I requested a company invoice and I still need a company invoice under my company name. I gave all the informations to them and they said booking.comm will issue the invoice. They knew nothing about the process!! I still need my company invoice and I need booking.com’s help regarding this!

Friendly staff, beautiful room, quiet. We even mentioned we were on our honeymoon and found a bottle of champagne in our room. Amazing Nothing, everything was great

A very nice Japanese style hotel. Quiet and relaxing. They use physical keys and require that you leave them at the front desk when leaving the hotel. A little uncomfortable with that setup.

Everything was great! I loved the experience of staying at a ryokan, the hospitality was amazing and the facilities were top notch. The food was simply not for me, but now I know that next time I’m not booking the room with breakfast and dinner included.

Such a beautiful hotel. Wonderful, spacious, elegant room. Staff was nice. Lobby was gorgeous and relaxing. The rooftop onsen was amazing. It was a little pricey compared to other hotels.

Quiet location and room was spacious and bright A little difficult to find when out walking. Google Maps were not able to direct us easily

Wonderful experience! Everyone we encountered was pleasant, professional, helpful and just fantastic. Rooms are beautiful as is every inch of the property! Loved our stay and will definitely go back! Nothing!

I love the Japanese style breastfast. Even my kids enjoyed it. They were also super impressed by the Japanese style bathroom and had a blast. The location is super convenient to visit Kiyomizu temple anytime. The staff was polite and attentative. The stay could have been perfect BUT we saw a cockroach. It was in the middle of the tatami area when the light went up, then disappeared into the closet instantly. It gave my daughter a nerve wrack and she got anxious for the rest of night. It was her first time to ever see a cockroach. I was not that emotional but I had to be extra careful while packing so we wouldn't leave with unwanted guests. The staff didn't even seem surprised when I report about the cockroach. I guess they get used to live with them.

This is a special hotel! Location was perfect on a quiet street that is walking distance to the historic shopping streets, the staff was incredible, rooms were spacious, and we were very happy with it. We were a group, so we rented 5 rooms and everyone was happy. One in our party rented a room with the outdoor onsen - that was amazingly great! The staff also arranged for us to forward our bags on to Tokyo which was a nice option.

This is the third time we’ve stayed at Saka Hotel and I wouldn’t stay anywhere else. It’s perfectly located - easy walking distance to sights, shops, and restaurants. The onsen is lovely and relaxing. The hotel combines traditional Japanese hospitality with 21st century conveniences.

Location and breakfast were great. The best part about the stay was the private outside bath, it was amazing. Probably in and out 5 times during a one night stay. Highly recommended.

Amazing location IN Higashiyama. Wonderful to be able to leave hotel and stroll around historic district when it was not crowded. Rooms were so clean and modern, but with charm of a historic Japanese Inn. The option of room with open air soaking tub was totally worth it. Lounge with fresh coffee made mornings wonderful for everyone in our group. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. One person in our group had the Japanese breakfast and said it was good, but the rest of us just enjoyed good coffee from the lounge. Short walk or taxi ride from hotel into the center of Kyoto, but hotel is located on a very quiet street. Many of the smaller, traditional restaurants in the area would not take walk-ins for dinner and since we didn't have reservations we were turned away.

The Saka hotel felt like a true Japanese experience. We stayed for 3 nights. The room was simply decorated, but was huge compared to Japanese standards. The amenities were generous, complete with fresh yukata to use, separate from pajamas. 3 kinds of slippers for different areas or the room and hotel! The staff, very courteous and friendly. The half board option (breakfast and dinner) was something we looked forward to! The number and quality of courses were exceptional, delicious, healthy, and interesting. Congratulations to the staff and chef for providing a truly memorable experience. We walked around town and did not have to take any other transportation, except to the train station. This hotel was the best experience during our Japan trip (and we stayed at 5* hotels in Tokyo and in Osaka). Photos are sampling of the good and menus
