My daughter and I absolutely loved our stay at Sokawa. The common spaces were designed beautifully incorporating the older structure, including the entrance, staff welcoming area and dining and lounge areas seamlessly with the newer building which is where our room was located. Every staff member from arrival to departure was professional, kind and helpful with any and every need (anticipated or not). Breakfast was included in our stay and it was fresh and delicious. The attention to detail and responsiveness to each and every question or need, surpassed our expectations. Our room was in the new annex and the traditional Japanese beds were less a little tough on our backs. Would have preferred thicker mattresses.

This hotel is truly exceptional, offering a rich historical background, outstanding service, and a unique experience that makes every stay memorable. Everything was wonderful. More space for clothes would have been appreciated, but it was a minor issue and we managed well.

Everything! The hotel was absolutely beautiful. The location was great and walkable to great sight seeing, shopping, restaurants. We also ate at the hotel and the food was spectacular. The staff was also helpful in providing us directions, helping with luggage or just being there to say hello. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat! Honestly nothing really I can say that was bad.

one night we asked the front desk to help us with a dinner reservation for 4. we wanted sushi and the desk made a reservation for us at a sushi bar. we would have better to sit at a table so we could talk together. thank you.

Everything about this place is right. The staff is warm and welcoming, the design is outstanding and the location is wonderful. Even though we arrived late in the evening, we were greeted with genuine thoughtfulness ...nothing rushed. After settling in, we went wondering the streets of Gion....stunning. Our entry into Japan was just magical. Thank you Sowaka, wish we could have stayed longer! Highly recommend their early morning guided tour.

We are both 70 - which made the Japanese room decor ( which involves everything being low to the floor) slightly challenging. The beds weren't futons...but they were still pretty low. So - that alone was a little tough for us!

Service was impeccable. Everyone was focused on ensuring an excellent experience and they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Their follow up on everything was remarkable. Truly a wonderful, authentic experience. Our room was wonderful, but a little dark.

The building is rooted in history but elegant and modern enough to rival any luxury hotel. Many aspects of the property make it unique including the pure water to drink and shower in, the history, the atmosphere, the unique bar, the location is stunning and the staff was so thoughtful, helpful and friendly. Truly exceptional experience. Nothing I didn’t like.

This is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. The staff really makes you feel like you are at your own home. I’ll miss it for sure. No complaints.
