Location Room was run-down: 1)the bathroom door had a broken handle so you could not lock it 2) shower drainage pipe and a rancid smell

We stayed in a family room for five (2 adults, a teen, and 2 children. As expected we had 5 bunks. They were comfortable with all bedding provided, along with velcroed blackout curtains for each bunk, bedside lights/usb/outlets/small shelf/mesh netting to hold books or magazines/large passcoded lockers. Our room had a private shower and separate toilet. The setup would be excellent for solo travellers in a shared room - I don’t think you could get a much better setup. The air conditioning was very effective during the heat wave in the high 30’s, except they periodically turned it off and you had to request for it to be turned back on. Perhaps some people were too cold??? The breakfast was simple but fine for the price (I think 3.50 euros). Coffee, orange juice, and a croissant. There was a snack and coffee dispenser in the lounge area, plus tables for eating or working, and laundry machines. The front area was always staffed, usually with both office staff and security. The metro was also not too far away. The area itself has a variety of good, ethnic food options nearby but doesn’t have a stereotypical downtown ‘Parisian feel’. If this is a concern, check it out on google maps to get a good idea of what to expect. Soap dispensers and hand dryers would have been good to have in the rooms especially in shared rooms where you wouldn’t be leaving your own supplies in there. The location was a bit far from the central area so you had to plan accordingly but still easily accessible. The biggest issue for us was that the door for our room wouldn’t lock (it was supposed to). You could bolt it once you were inside but we couldn’t secure it when everyone left for the day. The staff were aware of the issue for that room but no attempt to fix it occurred during the week of our stay. This wouldn’t be much of an issue for individual travellers as you would be putting your stuff away anyway, but for parents with 3 kids it was definitely a huge pain, especially when you thought you were booking a private, secure room. It took quite a bit longer to leave, having to pack up everything, every time we left the room.
