The Luang Say Residence

The property itself is gorgeous: a peaceful oasis with lush gardens, a sparkling pool, and a serene atmosphere that invites you to unwind. Breakfast is served at the scenic on-site restaurant with views over the gardens. We highly recommend trying the traditional Lao soup: the local chili oil was a delicious touch! Our room was spacious, elegant, and extremely comfortable. The four-poster bed, cozy sitting area, and luxurious full bathroom made us feel completely spoiled. The turndown service and soft robes were just the cherry on top. Every detail was taken care of, from the helpful shuttle service into town to the availability of tuk-tuks, laundry services, and anything else we needed. What truly makes the Luang Say Residence special is its people: warm, attentive, and full of heart. We’re so grateful for our stay and would absolutely love to return someday!

The hotel grounds and overall hotel is well maintained (July 2025). Staff if friendly and forthcoming. Rooms a pleasant and nicely sized. The pool is very relaxing and the a la carte breakfast is of great quality Other hotels maybe in even better proximity to the old town but it is still in a good location and the shuttle service is convenient and helpful as well. The rooms we had did not had bath tubs as we and one other guests maybe incorrectly assumed but the baths seemed recently renovated though and in a great condition, so this was no issue at all.

Excellent layout that is a stone’s throw to town (use loca app for cabs! It’s wonderful) Large rooms with excellent sheet and comfortable furniture. Wonderful terrace, spacious pool for a small hotel, very cozy and hospitable bar and restaurant Staff were extremely kind and hospitable, and provided excellent service. Such sweet and sincere people; we couldn’t be happier. The pool water was always cold but really not an issue

Exceptional

The a la carte breakfast was delicious. However, I primarily loved the attitude of the staff who were both helpful and friendly. There was a limited number of power sockets in the room.

The place is in a colonial style that reminds the old past. Such a romantic and inspiring place. The pool is big and surrounded by the lush garden. Both the staff and the manager were very professional and attentive. The pool bar area was under renovation, but we were served our drinks directly by the pool, so no worries.

One of the best places we stayed. Very fancy and beautiful. The staff were exceptional and always there to help. The rooms were exquisite, the bed super comfortable and the coming back to either a clean room or to our beds being made ready for bed was lovely.

I liked the architecture of the buildings. It felt nostalgic, like being in a French colony in the 1870s. The staff was kind. I didn't like the toilet and bathroom parts. The toilet was not isolated and was very close to the bed.

The property has been styled in keeping with an old colonial style and the gardens are beautifully landscaped, but sadly it seems like this hotel has never fully recovered from covid. The staff were friendly but clearly bored and under trained. The beds were super comfortable and breakfast was nice. Unfortunately my husband got food poisoning from the hotel and spent 3 of our 5 days in bed or in the bathroom. The hotel forgot to book our pickup car at the start of our trip which started things off on a negative. The wifi was sketchy, the bathroom flooded every time you took a shower because the drains were slow. Overall not the 5* experience we were hoping for or that the price suggests. I’m sure this hotel was fantastic in its heyday but now it’s dated and tired.

Breakfast was good would have preferred a few more vegetarian options of the meat ones. Staff was very nice and helpful. They were accommodating of adding another guest to the booking. Easy booking of tours, really enjoyed the pool and was cleaned regularly There isn't clear transparency on billing, if you ask to bill in local currency they will use a higher conversion rate than Google. We had some issues with our billing and got up charged quite a bit from the price we booked at but the staff did what they could to assist us. It was also fire season so smoke pollution was a little rough.

The old fashioned feel of the hotel

The Breakfast was superb. Both the breakfast area and the food was great. The hotel is located within walking distance of the main Luang Prabang attractions. Our room was large, comfortable and quiet. The staff were very friendly. The rooms had very few plugs and the ones that were there were difficult to use. We didn't come to watch TV, but the channels were not clear at all and so we didn't even bother trying to watch. The cleaning staff did not do a great job of cleaning the rooms, even though there wasn't a great deal to do anyway.

The grounds were really beautiful and you feel like you’ve gone back in time. The pool is enormous and very appreciated after a day in the sun! Incredible breakfast - we felt so spoiled! Finally, the staff were all really kind and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Special shoutout to TK at the front desk who helped us organise all of our tours - it was really well managed and we had a great time - and also to La the supervisor who ensured that we were very comfortable whilst at the property. I would recommend staying here if you go to Luang Prabang. N/a

The historic French colonial ambiance worked perfectly. The room was spacious and a great place to comfortably and quietly unwind after a busy day. The over head shower needs maintenance.

Great colonial property in a peaceful garden, magnificent swimming pool, and excellent smiling helpful staff. Just a little remote from the center (the free shuttle is great but still not enough), but that is also the price for silence.
