Seikiro Ryokan Historical Museum Hotel

We had hoped that there would be a nice foot path along the sea to Amanohashidate. There is a path, though it is a bit hard to find (just stay close to the sea as much as possible) and goes alongside a busy road for some time (on the bike path). Later it becomes nice.

This I s a great place to stay and explore for a couple of days.

A ryokan that is history itself. Every detail oozes the old japan charm along with pleasing aesthetics.

Location and parking We have spent over 10 months in Japan the last 3 years driving all over including Hokkaido few times, hence the review is from people very well aware with Japanese accommodations of any type including ryokan style. We have always been in wow of Japanese service, hygiene, amazing cleanness, up until we went to this place. I only booked it since it was listed as 4 stars, a culturally approved museum & based on description & pic- all totally misleading. We paid $210 for 2 nights meals not included. Next door Fairfield by Marriott was $190 for same time & perfectly new; I could have booked with points for $0 due to status but … wanted to support the local family business - wrong move. BTW I have been on bookings.com for 25 years and never gave this far such a low review nor had been in such an awful place. I am also a pulmonologist- lung doctor, very well aware of black mold, dampness, etc and their health ramifications. A day would not be enough to list all I want to say about the place. I took enormous amount of pics to support my review but unfortunately won’t be able upload all-bookings allow only 4. - An old lady w/ an eye of an eagle met us & made sure we parked by millimeter in the parking lines (after apparently allowing a large Toyota SUV to freely park at the end biggest parking but still mostly in our spot). She watched us take off our shoes (we did it and lined them up to perfection) & assigned room 32 which she changed shortly to 33. Walked us up to show us the view from the room & a dangerous electric switch that was not in the wall but rather rested on a table.

The confort was great for this type of building and can’t be compare with a new and modern hotel. The pillow was hard

Early Check out 10:00am. Kind of want to spend time at the place, but cannot. Staff was so strict made us feel un easy.

Exceptional

Great authentic feel. Felt like we were transported back in time. We had a balcony overlooking the garden, plenty of light and high enough for 4 of us. Location was also decent with a 7-8min walk from station. The shared bath “Onsen” added to the experience, but do not expect this to be a luxury onsen. Nothing major but the pillows provided were excessively hard. Might as well sleep on rocks. Also the wooden balcony window frames rattled all night as was windy.

Helpful and friendly owner and staff. It's a nice traditional inn recognized as a culture asset. It is located within walking distance to a supermarket and Macdonald if you require food in the night aside from izakayas. There is a visitor information centre near it where you can rent bicycles or e-bicycles.

Amazing experience. Beautiful building with so much history. I was amazed that it has been in the owners family for 300 years.

Absolutely outstanding. To have the opportunity to live in a 300 year old Ryokan and explore its history was a wonderful experience. A great place to simply relax and enjoy the moment. A big thank you to the owners who were marvellous, we were even given a lift to the station on our departure, no questions asked. A magical experience. Highly recommended. We should have booked for longer.

The location is great for the walks by the sea and the atmosphere is wow so Japanese we loved it! And the owners are very nice and polite. Absolutely recommend Seikiro for your authentic stay in Japan, especially our room with the garden view.

An incredible building, full of tradition and history. I was made to feel so welcome. Beautiful rooms. Amazing breakfasts!

This place is a treat. It is wonderfully historical, and quite conveniently located. The walk to Amanohashidate is about half an hour, and I believe there are buses. Shopping centre and restaurants nearby. The hosts were kind and welcoming, and everyone in the town was extremely friendly toward a lone stranger. Plenty of charming shrines and temples around. It felt like the movie Spirited Away without the creepy parts. The brick-like pillow was a bit of a culture shock, but one can sleep on the futon without it.

Has potential and a very nice flair Not well mentained, I get it’s a museum hotel but you can still restore some things. Only come here if you really want a very rustic flair and no possible sleep.
