Garner Hotel North Bergen - NYC Gateway by IHG

My family has been attending this hotel for nearly 20 years under its various brands. This is one of the best locations to stay to see NYC when you’re driving and need an affordable place to stay. The hotel is great.

Beds had a bunch of hair which makes me feel like bedding either wasn't changed or the person cleaning the room is shedding a bunch of hair. Besides that room was fine. Breakfast is definitely something you can miss.

Breakfast area was unable to handle large crowds. At minimum, provide coffee crafts. That would reduce the time in line for coffee

I booked this hotel because of the positive reviews, but after four nights I'm shocked it has so many. Our bathroom door could barely open because it hit the bed. The bathtub was badly stained, and the faucet handle was broken and came off in my hand. I reported it and was told it would be fixed. It never was. The body wash dispenser was completely EMPTY despite asking multiple times for it to be refilled. We were on the 6th floor and heard traffic, ambulances and loud cars all night. I discovered a large gap in the window frame, which likely also explained why the room wouldn't stay cool even with the AC set to 64. Housekeeping was ridiculous. After our room wasn't cleaned, I was told guests must request housekeeping before leaving. Nobody told us this at check-in. The next day I specifically requested it and was told housekeeping had already LEFT FOR THE DAY. Breakfast was extremely limited and the area was dirty. Tables weren't being cleaned, staff were rude, and we were ignored when asking for our table to be cleaned. We stopped eating there and paid to eat elsewhere. The lobby/elevators also had a terrible dirty-water/bleach smell. This wasn't one small issue: dirty room, broken faucet, empty toiletries, window gap, noise, AC problems, missed housekeeping, poor breakfast and poor service. Several issues were reported and never resolved. I would NOT stay here again and cannot recommend this hotel.

Room are small but that’s kinda fine for New-York, but the breakfast was okay. Not the best but doable

Appreciate them letting me park my truck in their parking lot even after checking out. Eased up the last few hours spend at new York.

Well located, good cleaning service The rooms were not well insulated, and there was a lot of noise very early in the morning due to truck traffic.

Be prepared for a lot of outside noise though. All throught the day and night you hear traffic, horn honking and trains.

Linens towels and tubs are good. Common areas were a mess
