Babalao Bungalows

I like that the property was tucked away but near everything as well. At first I was hesitant but after walking around and being a solo traveler, the location was very much appreciated. Jason and the team took very good care of me and set up any excursion I wanted to do as well as contact the venue letting them know to expect me. I would highly recommend Babalao Bungalows to anyone coming on this side of the island and looking for something quiet and chill but close enough to step out. All in all, I would absolutely come back.

From the moment we arrived, Jason made us feel welcome. He personally greeted us, walked us through the property, explained the different activities and excursions available, and provided helpful advice and local tips that made planning our stay incredibly easy. His guidance helped us make the most of our time on the island. The property itself is beautiful, clean, and full of character. The grounds are lush with tropical plants, flowers, and trees, creating a peaceful jungle-like atmosphere while still being just a short walk from the beach. The swimming pool is fantastic, and there are plenty of comfortable common areas where guests can relax, enjoy a meal, play board games, or simply socialize. One of the biggest highlights for us was the food. It was honestly some of our favorite food on the entire island. We kept coming back to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the hotel because every meal was consistently delicious. The dining area has a great atmosphere and became one of our favorite places to unwind each day. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and equipped with reliable air conditioning, making them a perfect retreat after a day of exploring. We also appreciated how safe and secure the property felt, with friendly staff and 24-hour security. A helpful tip for future travelers: many activities and excursions are cash-based, so it’s a good idea to withdraw cash at the airport when you arrive. What makes Babaloo truly special is its authentic, welcoming atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly, the property is beautiful, and Jason goes above and beyond to ensure guests have an amazing experience. We would happily stay here again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to friends and family visiting Zanzibar. Thank you, Jason and the entire Babaloo team, for such a memorable stay! ?☀

Great location. Although it is not directly on the beach, Jason brought me to the nearby hotel where there was access to sunbeds and a beautiful portion of the beach. The room and pool were clean, the air conditioning worked well, and the bed was comfortable. The location is perfect and a short walk to some of the more popular restaurants, and the staff assisted me with whatever I needed.

The property was very clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the 24-hour service was excellent and very convenient. The location was also great and made our stay enjoyable. Everything was good overall. No issues during the stay.

The location, near the beach, the staff was friendly and responded to any questions we had, and good breakfast. The cleanliness in the rooms needs improvements.

Very nice little “oasis” very close to the beach. The food was superb, especially the seafood platter and lobster dinner. Very friendly and attentive staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. Jason (owner manager) was always ready to help with suggestions.

Great location, walking distance to nungwi. Very attentive and professional staff, lovely breakfast available every morning. Lap is the best and will give you tips for all you need to know in town and help book tours.

It is a beautiful property. A nice pool and board games if you just want to stay in and relaxing. It also is nice there is a restaurant in case you just want to grab a bite. It also very close to the beach and other excursions. The staff is so nice and the kitties are so cute.

The title of this review says it all. I stayed at the Babalao Bungalows for over 20 days so I got to experience basically every facet of the bungalow meet all the staff and experience the joy of what staying there has to offer. The owners and the staff + the service provided by BB is second to none. The owners Jason and Max will go out of their way to provide you with the best service that they possibly can or direct you to the agency or tour group that you need. They are both well-immersed in the community and well known and can provide you with information or connect you with a proper agency that can help you with your stay. The staff is always smiling and friendly and the mood at the bungalow is extremely positive. The location of the bungalow is its next greatest asset. It is located at the best location in Nungwi Beach as it is right between the two main access points to the beach(2 minute walk to 1 and about 3 mins to the other) But yet the bungalow is tucked away in a peaceful setting , and the rooms are far enough from the road and beach that no noise or disruption is heard if rest and relaxation is desired. All of the room are back in the beautiful well manicured garden. The restaurant is outstanding and offers a variety of food and an excellent breakfast and the pool is always clean. In my opinion, if you are going to stay in Nungwi Beach, there is no reason to stay at any other location except Babalao bungalows. nothing

It was cosy, clean, pretty and close to everything Nothing

Very kind staff, we felt home from the first moment in the Bungalows. The restaurant serves delicious food with a big screen to watch football. The decoration is amazing

nice simple room, clean & quiet. lovely local atmosphere, always happy and smile workers.

The staff was very welcoming and addressed the AC that was not connecting to the remote promptly. Breakfast was very nice. Massage: It was a lovely massage, but I found it a bit awkward changing clothes in front of the masseuse (the masseuse didn’t step out to let me change and was always facing me). Plus, I could hear some electronic music coming from outside. Also, it would be great if the masseuse could turn off their phone before and during the massage. Taxi: Having a standard card option for taxis is really helpful for travelers.
