The staff were delightful. I felt honored to have been a guest in their beautiful facility. The facility felt like an authentic Japanese experience while also having modern comforts. The staff also assisted in receiving and forwarding my luggage, which was such a relief for me. Breakfast service was incredible and a sincere thank you for hosting a tea ceremony for the guests. The location is a little far from the main Kyoto area and a bit of a walk to one of the main train stations, but obviously this is not the fault of the property and I knew this beforehand. The limited staff hours can be challenging if you don’t plan ahead or arrive later than you expect.

Such a gem of a ryokan! Felt like we stepped back in time. You can feel the history in this place. We were spoiled in our spacious room with a balcony overlooking the courtyard garden and a generous living area. The automatic toilet was a unique experience in itself. We were served the best breakfast of our trip! The location was a bit of a trek from Kyoto (maybe 30 minutes car ride) but a nice change from the crowds. The train station to Kyoto was only a short walk away. Nothing- we loved everything! Wish we had more time to explore the Otsu area.

There is nothing I disliked about this place. It is such a lovely place and the staff is amazing.

Delicious breakfast! The facilities were clean, pretty garden, and great place to get a break from Kyoto/the busy city. They have a gorgeous garden too. Honestly everything was pretty nice. If you are on vacation/do not know the language very well you do have to lower expectations on the language barrier, but that is expected.

Beautifully restored traditional machiya. We stayed in a comfortable 2 twin futon room with a small service area with a sink and fridge. The hospitality was out of this world and the breakfast delicious! We only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed longer.

Amazing, wonderfully restored house and very kind staff. The bath was super nice, bed was comfortable, and breakfast was delicious.

A stunning old building that has been refurbished. You can tell it is cared for and is so clean. The owner was very accommodating to my gluten sensitivity, and we were able to figure out a meal. The owner was so kind and truly made a wonderful experience. I would love to stay here in the future.

Everything. The old machiya aesthetic, the delicious breakfast, the tatami mats, the baths, the kotatsu, the music in the shared space, and the lovely staff. Nothing

To find something wrong I'd have to nitpick e try detail.

It’s in a beautiful building. It’s very quiet and comfortable with all the amenities you’d ever want. We loved the room with the bath. Breakfast was so good. Parking was conveniently located literally right across the street. Because it’s an old building, it can get very cold in certain rooms. But, every room has a AC/heater to make things more comfortable.

Delicious breakfasts! Beautiful building with a view of an interior garden space from the dining room. The staff are so friendly and caring. Our room was spotlessly clean and inviting.

So much character in this little machiya. The common room is amazing

I absolutely loved my stay at Inase. I cannot wait to come back here on my next visit! The owners are so incredibly nice and hospitable -- any interaction I had with them left a smile on my face! I will miss them and the amazing breakfast they served. Without a doubt the best place I've stayed during my trip.

Staff were very kind and helpful. The room was quite large with 2 twin beds and a small table with chairs and a small kitchenette. The road outside is narrow and has some traffic so you had to be careful walking along the edges of the road. No real sidewalks.

The property manager was very polite and went out her way insure that we experienced Ōtsu the proper way. She even drew a map to help navigate the area around the property. We would absolutely her again!

The host of this property was incredibly welcoming and kind. She was absolutely accommodating and made us feel comfortable our entire stay. I would recommend purchasing the breakfast option if you want to try a genuine Japanese breakfast that is usually only available to Japanese people.
