Holiday Inn Express and Suites Portage by IHG

This place is not well maintained. Floors in room and elevator are very worn. They were Cracked scuffed and I had to change rooms because of the smell. The second room was better but I had to put baby powder down and buy air fresheners for the room to smell some what fresh. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room layout is okay. Couch had rips in it.

There were a lot of kids at the hotel the night we were there. So there was water tracked from the indoor pool to the hallway and elevator that looked like it had been there for awhile as they turned into

The only nice thing I have to say is the front desk lady was super nice! We walked in to see the pool was closed, no ideal for 3 children with us! Ok, got past that. Went to our room and the door was opened by the lock. We opened it cautiously to see no one but first thing we see is a wet blanket washcloth in the shower. Then we see multiple cup stains on the counter and stains on the bedding and floor. It was so dirty! We pulled out the couch bed and it had crumbs all over it!!! It was clearly not cleaned before we got there! Lastly, there was no coffee maker and not 1 bath towel.

Checkin was late and was not compensated for less than a day stay

They hadn’t cleaned enough rooms and the room we booked for us an 4 children wasn’t ready and we had to be in a king suite with a pull out and the very nice front desk lady had to find us a roll away bed. There were not enough blankets and pillows for all the kids and we had to use a blanket from our car. I should have gone to the Bass Pro Shop and spent $220 on sleeping bags for the kids.

Ice machine on the third floor was out of service as well as the laundry Wi-Fi signal was so weak couldn’t get connected, but other than that stay was fairly enjoyable.

Room had great design and flow. Breakfast was consistently delicious. Only hiccup was at check in when we were told they found our reservation but had no rooms available due to issues with not having enough housekeeping staff and we would be referred to a different hotel 10 miles away. This was resolved when the manager came 2 minutes later and opened up a recently cleaned room. Another plus was when the entire city of Portage lost power due to severe weather storms. We were under tornado warnings with minimal emergency lighting. Everyone was calm and we felt secure. Stairwells had emergency lighting while we couldn't use elevator. Room card keys still worked. No issues. Power restored around midnight 8 hours later and the staff had another delicious breakfast ready some 6 hours later including some of the best hotel coffee I've ever had. This was our 2nd stay. Will definitely stay again when we visit family nearby,

The property was understaffed the weekend we stayed, so fresh towels, toilet paper, paper cups in room, etc., depended on our making a trip to the front desk to get them ourselves. Not what I'm accustomed to at $465 for two nights.

Our room was nice. The breakfast was adequate. We loved the area.

My card was used for the incident charge and I assumed i would get my money back because we left the room the same as when we got there, however I was charged almost 6 dollars with no explanation.

Clean, nice breakfast, room phone never worked, and only had room service to clean rooms every three days which we didn’t know but overall I would stay again

On a busy holiday like the 4th of July and everyone trying to go to the beach for the weekend it was a great location and with plenty of parking and minutes from restaurants Holiday Inn was a great stay.
