Central Hostel

I had an amazing stay at Central Hostel! For one, the staff was so patient and welcoming with me. I don’t speak Portuguese at all, so they patiently worked with me to understand what I was saying as I fumbled through Google Translate. Then I got my own plans wrong (totally my fault) and showed up a day early, unexpectedly. They had availability and graciously changed my reservation to allow me to stay the unexpected night I arrived. I also had some confusion on the front end because something on booking.com said not to transfer any money, but thus property requires a deposit. I reached out to booking.com and they confirmed it was fine, so I sent the deposit. The owners were gracious and understanding about all of that process too (and just as an FYI, for future bookers that it’s totally legit and safe to send the deposit… These guys are great!!). The whole family was super kind and accommodating, and willing to help with any needs. Then I can’t say enough about the location itself. If you are there for Carnaval, there is literally no better location as it is not only within walking distance, but right around the corner from a lot of the food trucks and festivities. It was a perfect location to hit blocos and walk to the Sambadrome. Awesome location!! I can’t think of anything I didn’t like, but just to be helpful for future bookers, be sure to bring a lock for a locker because the door to the room with beds does not lock. You’ll definitely want to lock your things up in the lockers, but they’re nice and spacious. I didn’t have any issues with my stuff. :) Fellow guests were very friendly and helpful as well.

The hostel was really well located, right next to the Sambodrome so it was possible to come back by walk during the night. They were no locker available so we couldn’t store our stuff safely. Also there was only 1 shower for everyone on our floor, which made it very complicated. They also requested us to pay by cash but they didn’t have change.

The hosts were amazing. Walter, Lucas and their family made me feel at home. Never grumbled about any request. Nothing to complain

Kitchen facilities are poor

Lukas at reception wery kind and help me in everythings. Location was very good near metro and buses. Very nice experience

Nice location, good shared space. Hot water in the bathrooms. We got dorm with 15 beds but we booked dorm with 10 beds. Two of five mattresses were in very bad conditions. We woke up with back pain next days. Another issue was about other people in dorm. Someone smoked in room two times and stole my pillow. Owner should kicked this guy off from hostel. They apologized us but it was very tough evening and night.
