The best thing about this hotel is the location in the heart of old Rouen, between the cathedral and another spectacular Gothic church St Maclou. It has a lovely shady timbered courtyard. I requested an early check-in on Booking.com which was immediately accepted online; however, the reception doesn't open until 3pm and the unsmiling person who came out from the back said the room was not ready. We were allowed to leave our bags, but they were stored in an open and unsupervised area. Fitting the kitchen area into a smallish bedroom didn't leave room for furniture except two under-counter stools. The room was rather spartan, with no decor or pictures on the walls. The roof terrace of the room we booked was a little disappointing - plastic grass, mostly dead plants and the chairs pictured on the website had been replaced by large ugly reclining chairs so that it wasn't possible to sit up at the table for breakfast. The fridge in the kitchen area was not powerful enough to cool things properly and when I reported that the power adaptor on the cable was hot, the staff said they couldn't do anything about it. We were offered another room, which was nicer than ours in terms of furnishing, but the mini-fridge was no better, and the room had no coffee maker or outdoor space (the reasons we booked the studio with terrace).

The hotel was beautiful, the building was stunning. Right in the city centre. Beautiful big room. Very clean, staff were excellent. Lovely garden. Nothing this hotel was perfect. Would definitely stay again.

The location is very good. The breakfast was ok. The room was too small for two. The pillows are too hard. The staff somewhat indifferent. There was a problem arranging a taxi to the station. The taxi didn’t arrive, putting us under stress to catch the train.

Location was great The weather was hot and our room only had a small fan - it was stifling. Only one of the ladies who was on reception bothered to speak to us. The others were not interested - not even a friendly ‘bonjour’ as we went by.

Excellent location. Everything in walking distances. Beautiful old part of town. Comfortable bed. Buffet breakfast was reasonable. Paper cups in room for tea and coffee. Could do with a decor update. Basic bathroom. Rooms not the same as the website (we had 3)
