Hunley Golf Club

Very comfortable room and excellent breakfast.

Location was ideal for us, being only a short distance down the coast from Saltburn. The view from our room over the golf course to the sea and cliffs is spectacular. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful in correcting and compensating for some unfortunate mistakes in the initial booking. Although the breakfast menu was fairly limited, what we chose was delicious and very good value. The TV didn't seem to have any normal terrestrial channels (BBC, ITV etc). The shower gel and shampoo were empty, or almost. Our bedroom was on the ground floor with a path immediately outside, which meant that the wonderful view mostly had to be admired through a net curtain. (There was a lot of confusion over our booking, which was meant to be for two days at the end of a week in the northeast – and was confirmed as such by Booking.com about a week before our arrival date. Just before we left home, however, the hotel emailed to say that unfortunately the first night was already fully booked, even though Booking.com had confirmed it, so we would have to change our arrangements and book an extra night elsewhere. Annoyingly, when we arrived at Hunley at check-in time (3pm) on the new date there was no-one at reception. The barman then showed us to a room that hadn't been cleaned or made up. We were in a hurry to get to an appointment elsewhere, so left a suitcase in the room - and the key, for the barman to deal with the cleaning issue. We later phoned to say we would be late back and to leave the key in the room but when we let ourselves back in that evening the room still wasn't ready and our luggage had gone. I went to complain at the bar and the very kind catering manager explained where our suitcase should be – and then took us to a different room! Fortunately it had been made up, was very clean and comfortable and had a better view. They compensated us for the confusion with free breakfasts.)

Amazing views Very lovely staff who were friendly and helpful Room very noisey - tv next door booming through the walls till midnight . Bar filled with rowdy and loud people who were swearing and seemed very drunk . Such a shame as the views are beautiful but I hate listening to people using expletives for every second word . Sadly this would stop me returning .

Great location, convenient spot. Staff were wonderful couldn’t do enough for you. Rooms were tired, slow draining sink and shower, loose toilet seat which was not helpful, then no hot water on the last evening and next day.

The rooms were fine and the shower very good. Nice location too The hotel is advertised as having a restaurant, however we found on arrival that it only opens Thursday, Friday and Saturday which is not obvious when booking. With the location being quite remote its a long drive to town to get food. Also there is no breakfast option making the price of the room quite expensive for basic facilities.

View No food. Didn't notice any reference when booking to say that breakfast was only available Thursday until Sunday

Location and the bed. We were told the bar closed at 11pm and when we got back at 10.30pm it was closed and the shower filled up with water as the drainage system failed.

Always chatty staff and well situated for the price for trips to Whitby I didn’t particularly like the disabled style wash room.

No staff at the hotel at night. The two rooms next door kept us up all night fighting and arguing. Had to threaten to phone the police in the end. This went in until 4 in the morning. Didn’t sleep at all. Apparently the manager was going to ring me the next day before they took our money. No phone call the next day and then just Took our money the day after that. Nice hotel but would never return
