Unfortunately, the noise made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. The guests above us were very loud late at night and sounded like they were moving furniture around. Another guest next to us was playing music and singing late into the night as well. The parking situation was also frustrating. There is street parking available, but it is limited to two hours. The overnight parking recommended by the hotel was not very comfortable, as the area had a lot of homeless people around. The staff was great, especially Lee, but the noise and parking situation definitely affected our overall experience.

Great hotel setup! Right in the center of Hillcrest. Will definitely stay here again.

Great place to stay

Cons: rooms are all a little bit different, so be prepared for the unexpected and be flexible. My room had a lofted bed with a ladder that was honestly a bit treacherous and probably wouldn’t work for some guests. Also, my kitchen sink doubled as my bathroom sink. Neither of those things were dealbreakers for me. Also, guests should be prepared for a significant unhoused population that hangs out at the 7-Eleven next to the hotel. Nothing really to be done about this, but there will be 3-10 homeless people hanging out on the sidewalk next to the hotel day and night. This did not make me feel unsafe at all, but be prepared.

Location is excellent! I'm older and the bed is very low. Hard to get out of. The parking garage is sometimes threatening with homeless people able to hang out in the parking area.

Had a good stay.

Other than that, great stay! I will return again!

This is an unusual hotel, in that it has coded security gates to get in and out since it appears to be in a not-so-good neighborhood, but I guess that it is helpful from a security standpoint. The layout of the rooms is a little odd, but our room was spacious and reasonably well equipped. Parking is very limited, and is behind and underneath the hotel. The parking lot next door charges $30 a day, so be careful. There is a 7-11 next door, which is convenient, and there are several food options within walking distance. Overall, I would say that I was a little concerned ahead of time, but this hotel exceeded our expectations. I would stay here again.

Loved this place! Met the owners since they are very active in the day to day operations, lovely people! Fantastic location and we loved our room with a bed in the loft.
-
Location, lighting, comfortable bed, large room, anti-crackhead wall, and big windows. The screaming homeless people outside

Very central location in Hillcrest. When I had issues about my room, I communicated them to Bryce and was acccomodated very swiftly to another room. He was so helpful and kind throughout the whole process. Thank you!

The staff support was amazing. My room was clean and comfortable. My room had lots of windows and I enjoyed the ocean breeze. The restaurant in the lobby served a great Latte.

The micro-loft concept is unique, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The only thing worth mentioning is that climbing up to the loft bed can be a bit challenging in the middle of the night if you need to use the restroom, so it’s something to keep in mind. That said, it was a small tradeoff for an otherwise enjoyable stay. Overall, I found Abpopa Hillcrest to be a great value in an unbeatable location, and I would happily stay there again on my next visit to San Diego.
