The staff at Surfer Beach Hotel are always friendly and helpful. The views are awesome, especially if you are stay on floor 4. Can’t beat the sunset views from the balcony. Great stay for a reasonable price.

Love this place! Always stay here when I visit San Diego. Right on the beach with plenty of things to do in walking distance.

Unfortunately I can’t say much good about the helpfulness of staff. My family lost power in our room and had a rather unpleasant runaround with the front desk, maintenance, and management as well as a very uncomfortable hot day/night. We were told that maintenance would be on site in 10 minutes and this didn’t happen until the next day. It’s a long story but multiple contacts to the desk felt poorly handled and put off. The power situation was ultimately rectified and the manager apologized and asked how he could make it better. I said that a meal at the restaurant downstairs would make everything totally better but he said he couldn’t do that. I have trouble believing that it would be impossible to somehow vouch for a meal. Then after more runaround I was told I would be given $100 through Expedia and I’ve waited a month with no such refund for our trouble. It has left a poor taste in my mouth about this hotel. The loss of power is forgivable but getting the runaround for so long is poor business.

You cannot beat the view, you’re literally right on the beach. Rooms were clean, but be prepared to have sand everywhere since the beach is right there. Staff was super friendly and helpful, our flight landed at 7am, they held our bags and got us checked in 2 hours early with an upgraded room. There are also 2 restaurants connected to the hotel and walking distance to everything you could need. We would absolutely stay here again.

Great location. Very dated hotel. TV in the room had maybe 12 channels and barely worked. The A/C was terrible. Room was some what clean. No room service for a 5 night stay. You had to call for towels, TP etc. Expensive for what it is but they have a good location so it is what it is. Parking cost 180.00 for my stay.

The location was unbeatable. The hotel is just a step away from the beach and has wonderful beach views. There are restaurants and even a surfing school right outside of the hotel. The room was clean and had a great balcony overlooking the pool and beach. The air conditioner was a bit annoying. It would constantly go on and off in the middle of the night. We tried opening up the windows, but being we were there on a weekend in August, late night fun was being had outside and the sound funneled into our hotel room with the windows open. We were aware we were staying in a busy and exciting location, so we were not surprised by the noise. Parking was satisfactory, but some of the spots were a tight fit. We also wish our room had a shower and not a tub. The tub was a bit hard to climb into. Because of the surfing school on the beach in front of the hotel, you are unable to swim in the water without a boogie board or surfboard. You have to go south or north of the hotel beach.

Pool, location, beds and pillows

Location and the view. Bed was nice too. Not really a dislike but there needs to be door mats to help reduce the sand in the room. Also a designated smoking area with chairs. Smoking is not good but a lot of us still do :)

I love the location of the property. The staff was very very friendly. Unfortunately, I had a junior suite that when the couch was pulled out, it completely blocked walking out the front door. I had to go sideways and shimmy my way around. Also, the bathroom was rusted and in poor repair.

The guy working the front desk on 8/7/26 at 2:00 was very rude. He was not helpful and our room was not ready at the guaranteed time of 4:00.
