My mistake that I didn't know I was booking Stuart House, this is a fair walk from the Bell, but is in the centre of Stow. Has plenty of parking, compared to The Bell where you may end up on the street away from the pub. Shower was hot and powerful. The Hedgehog room is on the ground floor next to the road, so was extremely loud with Christmas revellers walking past. There are no curtains just badly designed shutters that don't close properly, meaning the lampposts outside will keep the room light all night. Plus it is next to the front door so you'll hear every guest enter and exit the property.

The Dormouse room while small (as advertised) had everything one would need and was very quaint. Breakfast was delicious. It was a bit loud as there was a generator or fan (I think) out back that ran during daytime hours.

Clean, second floor room, in secondary building up the road. Wish there had been AC as weather was exceptionally hot and we were on 2nd floor. Access to room from parking lot was past much garbage and unswept pathway. Continental breakfast could have included some fruit.

Paper thin walls so it was very hard to sleep with noise from the other rooms. Only 5 rooms upstairs I believe but can hear everything. Food mediocre

  • Engine customer Jun 2025

Very clean room and wonderful staff Building within feet of a busy road. With windows open all night you had traffic noise in the morning. Very tight parking lot for just a few cars. Parking on street not far away

Things started fairly well. I booked a small double room as a single traveller and was pleased to find it was actually in the Bell pub itself.. I believe there is overspill accommodation close by. The lady who greeted me and showed me the room was charming. My room was called "The Dormouse" The room was noisy until 9.30 in the evening due to the proximity of the kitchen extraction unit just below the bedroom window. I closed the window in the afternoon despite it being a hot day. There is a double bed in the room which makes the space terribly cramped. I am a standard slim build but had to shimmy sideways past the end of the bed to get into the bathroom.. again desperately small - an inadequate hand basin, no shelving for toiletries, toothbrush etc.. After unpacking my case on the bed.. no room on the floor I had dinner in the pub restaurant. Sausage and mash and cabbage... absolutely fine but took ages (40 mins ) in a room with only two others tables occupied. Dessert also a lengthy wait. 'When I got out of bed in the morning a cockroach jumped from under the bed into my shoe. Horrified, I drowned it and took it down to the reception. Duty manager suitably alarmed as was the housekeeper. I suggested that they should remove the bed which was fitted so tightly into the overly small room and fumigate the area. The configuration of the furniture made it impossible to clean or indeed move the bed for thorough housekeeping and the proximity to the kitchen extraction unit explained the rest. As I said to the management, I am not in the habit of leaving bad reviews but I did expect the management team to contact me shortly after leaving. This did not happen. My Amex card was charged in full. It was only after e mailing the original receptionist ... who replied saying the incident has "been escalated to higher management" and then phoning three days later and speaking to the manager that I was told my card had been refunded for the room charge. No response from "higher management". . Judging from the online photos I am sure that some of the rooms are more spacious.

I had a little trouble keeping the shower door shut, so that might need a bit of adjusting. Due to the position of my room relative to the main road, headlights would sometimes flash brightly into my room as cars went by, so for that room in particular, a set of blackout curtains would be wonderful.

Booked a superior double room with breakfast for 3 days stay , one month ahead of arrival date. Full payment was deducted 2 days before arrival. We were given a room with dirty toilet and non functional shower. See photos below. We were told to go across the rooms to another room to shower as the shower here had been under repair for 3 months. We declined, so after about 3 hours of waiting, it was arranged for us to stay at another hotel with same room rate. We were promised that no payment was required at the new place as they would manage that for us. But once we checked in at the new place, Bell & Stuart called us and told us that we had to pay at the new place too. They told us to get a refund from Booking.com on our own for the payment already made to Bell & Stuart. Very unprofessional and terrible management!!

The location was great! Our room (hedgehog) was very small and barely fit the two of us in. The shower door wouldn’t open if the bathroom door was closed so I had to shout my partner to open it for me otherwise I’d be stuck in there! Unfortunately the room wasn’t in great condition with paint peeling off and dust covering everything. The room was on the street side and was unbearably noisy with the window open and boiling hot with it closed. There was a note that complimentary tea was provided but there wasn’t any in our room. The location was great but could have been a lot better.

We had evening meal and breakfast and both were very good. Room generally good although bed was a little smaller than we were used to

Friendly staff, great location and nice spacious room We had a downstairs room and the people above were very noisy. We could hear them moving around until the early hours and were woken up today by hoovering.

Location was good Tiny, blocked sink, a bit dirty and very noisy

Location is perfect, great views, and food is great. Bed and pillows are uncomfortable, also it is very loud, need ear plugs to sleep if your staying above the bar.

My wife and I had a lovely stay at the Stuart House. It was a short walk from the pub, and conveniently placed in the centre of Stow. We were in room Badger for one night, which was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The rooms had a small courtyard for parking, which was a little tight but convenient. The heating worked well, and warmed the room up nicely which made my wife very happy. We didn’t notice any wifi issues during our stay. We had both dinner and breakfast in the pub, and the food was delicious and the staff were friendly. Would definitely stay again. One of the side plates for dinner wasn’t fully clean, but quickly replaced by staff when brought to their attention. The self serve toaster caused a bit of chaos during breakfast. Was very easy for guests to burn their toast if you don’t get the settings right, and keep an eye on it. Staff happily provided more bread, but a more standard pop up toaster would make everyone’s lives easier.
