Mad Monkey Broadway
About Mad Monkey Broadway
Mad Monkey Broadway is a backpacker hostel near Central Station, Sydney - positioned for travelers who want to explore the city: walking distance to Newtown’s eclectic shopping and street art, Chinatown’s food scene in Haymarket, and the Broadway shopping center. Every room is air-conditioned, dorms come in mixed and female-only options, and free local gym access is included with every stay. The atmosphere is calmer and more homely than a characteristic party hostel - common-room jam sessions, shared dinners, and easy conversation - while organized events and nights out still run seven days a week. A swimming pool sits just across the road, a single bus reaches Sydney’s beaches, and the Harbor Bridge and Opera House are close by. Central Station’s proximity makes Broadway an ideal base for day trips, including the Blue Mountains. Power points at every bed, free WiFi, and large security lockers throughout. Free gym passes to Anytime Fitness, fun nightly events, and very friendly staff! The hostel is in a great location close to Victoria Park and Broadway Shopping Centre.

There were relics left under my bed that seemed to have been there for month, and Soo much weed being prepped in the lobby smoked at front all night long

I stayed at Mad Monkey Hostel in Sydney from 6 to 15 February while attending the APSS conference, which took place at the University of Sydney, only about a ten-minute walk from the hostel. What I particularly appreciated about this accommodation was its affordability, at just £20 per night, which made my stay very economical. The location was also excellent. Situated on Broadway, it is very close to the city centre and within easy reach of Central Station, making travel around Sydney straightforward. Bus stops are only a minute away from the hostel, providing convenient access to other parts of the city. In addition, Broadway Sydney Shopping Centre is nearby, where almost everything one might need can be found. The kitchen was poorly maintained and often unclean. With only three tables seating eighteen people in total, residents frequently had to wait to prepare meals. The tables, floor, and sinks were regularly dirty, and fridge space was extremely limited. Overall, the kitchen facilities need considerable improvement. The shared room, with four bunk beds accommodating eight people, felt overcrowded and uncomfortable. There was little personal space, and even changing clothes required leaving the room. The lobby was also very small, with seating for only a few people. In addition, noise from other residents at night and early in the morning was an issue, which I had to report more than once. Essentially, the hostel is suitable only as a basic place to sleep.

Lovely hostel with great travel links to all the main attractions you want to see. Also really enjoyed the events that are on each day of the week which are a great bonus considering how good the prices are. The staff were all really friendly and helpful which was nice as I was traveling on my own. If its your first time in Sydney as a solo traveller I highly recommend!
