Oldmancaptain Hostel

They organized a cooking event at night, which was very good. While booking, it said they accepted credit cards, but when I arrived they asked for cash, which was irritating. They also asked us to put on the pillow covers and bed sheets ourselves. I was assigned the top bunk bed, and the bed sheet was not the proper size, so it was really hard to put it on, especially on the top bunk, which was very frustrating.

Overall it was ok, but the mattresses were pretty dirty with lots of stains.

I enjoyed 9pm Social time, people get oppertunity to talk to other travelers and we were making Brownie and Taiwanese puff candy. Girls with long hair left their hair all over bathroom. The bathroom floor is wet most of the time.

Location is amazing, right next to the Tainan train station. Travelers must put on the bed sheets and mattress covers themselves. This is not a huge problem, but for me, the covers did not fit the mattress. There was no staff late at night when I needed help.

It's better to spend 200 NTD more to get a single room instead of renting there. They mention breakfast only: jam (empty bottles) with bread. No sleeping makes you like living in hell. Very small shower room not clean. very bad construction condition. I don't like it. very bad experience

Location was spot on, right inside the train station. So convenient to move around as well. The bed and the AC temperature was really comfortable, they also had fans all around running which ventilated the room well. A very interestingly themed hostel. The free evening events were amazing, made some good friends there and even learnt new skills in there. Over all it was lovely staying here. I think may be the cleanliness around the bed and the mattress was a tiny bit compromised.

There were ants in the room.

Location Not very clean. I found some apparent dust on my bed. Supposedly fell from the roughly painted ceiling. I know the price is good but it doesn’t mean dust on the bed is acceptable.

It was really close to the station. It could have full showers.

Bathrooms were a bit messy and they didn’t have hand wash.

Really great location just next to the railway station. The room is ok. The lockers don't have enough space for the whole backpack but ok for a notebook or so. They have a free event at 21 which is great to interact with others. The bed was comfortable. The shower was in the toilet and everything gets wet when someone is using it. The light does not go off completely and if you have the upper bunk bed there will be some light throughout the whole night as it is open at the top. I did have some problems with the Wifi though. It has multiple networks and sometimes I had to switch as one was not working.

Location and social atmosphere

Good location close to train and bus stops. Comfortable beds. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Felt a little bit rundown.

We can save the money whereas location is nice. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Moreover, I was not disrupted from other beds. Somewhat difficult to find the hotel. I was surprised that the entrance is inside Family mart. The toilet and shower are in the same room.

It’s literally right next to the train station. The free events are nice. Lockers are big enough to fit valuables. It’s inside of Family Mart, perfect when you start feeling peckish late at night. Oh boy. Overall the stay wasn’t bad for the price of it. However, it wasn’t clean, bed, bed curtains and other parts of the room had dust and stains and random trash in the corners where, I suppose, vacuum doesn’t reach. The bathrooms were fine though in the female showers you couldn’t really adjust temperature of the water unless you wanted the water pressure to drop drastically. Even though there was female bathroom it was used by men too because (my guess) there weren’t enough showers in the men’s bathroom. The pictures you see on booking were for sure if the “better” rooms and not the one I was staying at (I even went to compare). The area itself is a bit rough, as many areas around train stations are. If you’re on a budget I surprisingly still recommend it, it’s fine. But if you can spend a couple more dollars I would book something a bit better in a better area.
