Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu

The location and room was excellent. The mattresses could have been softer

First of all, the location was Amazing! It was so close to everything in Asakusa. Everything was in short walking distance. Second, the rooms had a retro vibe which I really dig, and it was in traditional Japanese ryokan style. Lastly, the staff was absolutely fantastic. They were so kind and helpful in everything. I had a couple of issues with a shuttle to the airport and they went out of their way to help. Always smiling and had a kind word. I will return. The rooms were small but very clean and a great value. Again, the rooms were a bit small but that was not an issue for me at all.

The price was a little high, but the location kind of justified it. The onsen is literally the size of a large bathtub, so keep your fingers crossed that no one else comes in.

This was probably one of the best hotels I have stayed in Tokyo. Although I had the single room with no window, it was enough space for one with the feel of traditional Japanese ryokan. Onsen for women was wonderful but can get crammed. They provided a great selection of general amenities, had laundry, was less than a 1 min walk from Asakusa Sensoji temple, 5-min walk to a large Don Quixote, 3-5min walk from two nearby subway stations (Asakusa & Azambashi), so much food & shopping nearby, overall, a great well-rounded hotel! Would stay again!! Wish there was breakfast experience like in traditional ryokans but it was still great & they provided snacks & drinks in their common area!

The best part about this stay is certainly the location! Situated right off of the Nakamise Shopping Street, you are mere steps away from the Senso-ji Shrine. While most visitors to Tokyo experience both of these locations, I cannot express how amazing it is to walk through these areas late at night (after 10pm) or early in the morning (5:30-6:00) before all the tourists arrive. Starting around 10am, this entire area is flooded with visitors until around 8:00pm. However, outside of these times, you have the location basically to yourself and can walk around and enjoy everything without the crowds and noise. You can get great photos with no people in them... impossible during the day. You are within walking distance of Asakusa Station and one subway stop away from the Sky Tree. The on-site onsen is available for all guests, but it was almost always empty when we visited. There is a small coffee/snack station near the entrance which is always well stocked with Japanese cookies and treats. Coffee and Tea are available. There is an inexpensive washer/dryer that you can use on-site and pay for with your phone as well! This was a HUGE help for us!

The location is fantastic. I couldn't believe how close it was to Senso-Ji Temple, Nakamise Shopping Street, and Kaminarimon, and yet it was so quiet. We had a terrific view of Senso-Ji temple right from our room and Tokyo Skytree from the baths. They tatami room was very comfortable, and each person can enjoy a private, relaxing soak in the Japanese hot spring bath.

Hospitality yo cleanliness and the location was prime. It's simply the best option in Asakusa, do visit this place, the property is well kept and the public bath with an outdoor zen garden on the rooftop is an added advantage.

The staff was exceptionally helpful and kind, the location was perfect for exploring Asakusa and getting to train stations easily, and everything was super comfortable and clean! ZERO complaints!

The room was spotless, fairly spacious, comfy, and a few thoughtful tidbits and refreshments were included. The desirability of the location depends on your itinerary, but it is fairly quick to access from most anywhere. At least at the time of my booking, the price was very fair for Tokyo. The front desk staff were lovely. A place to smoke is not available between 10 PM and at least when I left at 8:15 AM. There is a nice public smoking spot ~300 m away, though.

Great affordable ryokan

The onsen was amazing and never too crowded! The area was spectacular! I think for me as a person used to western beds it was uncomfortable to sleep on the futon, just a bit too hard

Location was fantastic, right next to Asakusa station so easily accessible and tons to do in the area Traditional style beds weren’t the most comfortable c and an extra pillow would’ve been nice

The facilities, amenities and staff were amazing. The location was also superb. The bed got some getting used to. But that is the experience you choose when choosing this Ryokan.

Amazing location! Right in the heart of Asakusa but it feels like your in a cozy, tucked away in. We loved the options of the baths to give it that traditional Ryoken vibe but it being on the smaller side. Seriously so great! We also loved the laundry options as well and our bathroom and room were very nice! Amazingly kind staff as well. The only thing that isn’t the properties fault at all is the firmness of the beds. Coming from America we’re used to extremely soft beds so it’s a bit of a transition to go from soft to firm. This is our second trip to Japan so we were prepared for this but just a heads up for first time travels!

Location was excellent, staff amazing & my room a single Japanese style room was a perfect cultural vibe to start my Japanese visit. Also enjoyed an evening onsen with view of Skytree. All round excellent stay. Quiet side street in middle of bustling Temple district- close to walk to everything. Very calm and peaceful inside.
