Orchid House Tulum Jungle

Beautiful place in the "jungle" though it's now mainly a residential/commercial area. Some good restaurant and bar options around, however the main attractions of the beach and downtown do require a car / scooter. Really nice staff all around! A pity that Tulum's bubble busted so quite a few empty buildings and houses around the area. Requires a 15-20 min drive to make it to the beach. The Beach House restaurant and bar is expensive!

The Orchid House Tulum Jungle is a charming, bohemian-style boutique hotel located in a quiet part of Tulum. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful! My bed and bedding were extremely comfortable. The food is colorful, healthy and packed with flavor, and they pay attention to the presentation of each dish. I would return to this place simply for the staff and food! I love all of the artwork and decorative touches - hammocks, thatch roofs, hydroponic plants in cute vases on the tables, and the hotel has a cute little black and white kitten on property. I did yoga on my balcony early in the morning my last day and watched all of the different bird species in the trees in the center of the hotel. This is a perfect spot for solo travelers and couples. This wouldn't be a place for families as there are no activities for children. Nothing is within walking distance of this hotel so you have to take very expensive taxis or shuttles everywhere. There are many fees tacked on to ALL services in Tulum, so even if your flight and hotel are cheap, expect to spend a lot of money each day on food, drinks, taxis and tours/excursions. Do not snorkel here when seaweed is covering the beaches and ocean. You cannot see any fish or turtles and you are constantly getting tangled in the seaweed. I was concerned about safety and security of personal belongings, but quickly found out that I felt safe and secure. Booking.com did not advertise this hotel correctly. There is no private beach, no yoga, and there are no swimming pools here other than small, shallow plunge pools. The plunge pools on the decks/balconies of the suites are filled with leaves and they are not cleaned unless you request that they be cleaned. Anything you request, however, the staff goes out of their way to be helpful.

The room is really nice, but that's about it for this place... Frank and the guys working here are nice and helpful, unfortunately I was received by Mercedes upon arrival who was more busy taking selfies than helping the guests... I arrived pretty late, and went to the reception the next day to tell that I had to shower in cold water. The receptionist Mercedes was not at all helpful and far from service minded. She claimed it was my fault that I didn't know how to use the shower, and just sat there looking at her computer. I had to ask her to come and show me, she did not at any point suggest to help. When I asked for restaurant tips etc, she was very short, not at all trying to give any service. You should expect much more from a hotel with 5 stars! And upon departure, the other receptionist (who btw was very helpful and the total opposite of Mercedes) tells me that Mercedes had deducted the wrong amount for my stay, and added $300 more! How lazy can the service be? The "pool" is not a pool... And the location is pretty far from everything. For this price, I would rather have stayed at the Tulum beach zone. The internet does not function fully in the rooms, even though they claim that it is working...

Interestingly designed space. Centre to beach and town of Tulum - for us good as we had a car so could break our days between different places. Free parking on public road. Great they have a sister branch by beach which guests can use so saves on buying sunbeds etc. Cool jungle vibes & close to great coffee shops and places to eat / drink. The pools aren't your traditional layouts so not for you if you want to chill by pool. Location is far from beach but countered by fact that they have beach side hotel you can use all day. We had a car so easier to drive around esp in the heat. Food at was OK but nicer at their beach branch. No WiFi in room but then again was a blessing i guess ☺️

The rooms were spacious and beds were large The pools and outside space is dank and shaded so it’s unpleasant to hang out in - we didn’t at all. The rooms and whole property looks tired and like it needs a good clean / update. It’s advertised as five star, but basic amenities (coffee pods for the machines in the rooms etc) are not included - £1.50 a pod!!! We were given one towel each and no robes/slippers provided. The location is off putting - open manholes in the street and a £20 taxi (!!) to the beach area - which is only about 3km away; and about £15 into the town. Really would not recommend this location or this hotel. Staff were helpful when asked but I expected a bit more for a supposedly five star stay.

The hotel is located in an area 15 minutes walk from the town area of Tulum. It is quiet and surrounded by rainforest The ambience was restful and tranquil and the staff members obliging. We did not eat there. Aldea Zama is in the middle of a huge development site of future hotels and apartments so not good for cafes and restaurants or shops The room was very dark and the outside area was damp and uninviting. The pools were just plunge pools, not for swimming.

I loved the vibes! Amazing cute little hotel! Very jungly and exotic. Comfy bed, nice staff and the patio in our bedroom was very cute with a splash pool! In room dining efficient and delicious. The fruit platter was outstanding. They provided safe shuttle to Cancun for $150. Nothing to complain about.

Very beautiful garden and pool area. Trully paradise views and sounds. The staff is welcoming and upgraded us to a better room due to some smell problems in our booked room. So nice! We appreciated this step a lot. They have own beach club, what is an important issue in Tulum if you want to get a seaside approach. Cause almost all beaches are private. Bed was too soft, but this is a very subjective issue.

The place is quite unusual and does make you feel like you are staying in the jungle and on arrival we were greeted with a welcome drink. The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable, there is also refillable water in the room which is a nice bonus. They let us have late checkout because our flight was so late in the evening, which was a nice gesture. We booked this hotel specifically for the deluxe suite because we wanted something a little bit different for our last night in Tulum, but on arrival they led us to another suite with jungle wallpaper which we had seen online and didn't like. When I asked for the room we had booked the female receptionist told us that the images from the deluxe suite were inaccurate and that the room didn't exist. She showed us a room that was completely different to the images of the one we had booked located in the turret and said that was the room which it clearly wasn't. We later that day did see the room we had booked over by the pool, however it would appear there was only one of them and it was already occupied, so the receptionist had lied to us and put us in a different room type. This was disappointing as we were in a really nice place before moving and wouldn't have moved and paid more for the room we received. The room has separate taps for hot and cold water with wooden handles which looks great and within keeping with the theme however are not strong enough to turn the valves which meant we had boiling hot water and no cold to mix with it, so that evening we were moved to the same room type next door where we had the same problem with the hot tap. In the end we stayed in that room and just had cold showers. The blinds didn't come down either but we made do without. The pool area as pretty as it is is located around the restaurant so you are in the pool while people are eating which is a little odd. There are no sun loungers or anywhere to relax, just set tables ready for service so it's more of a feature than a practical pool. We booked this hotel for a total two day relax before our long evening flight back but sadly we didn't end up using the hotel besides to sleep. Instead we found a great pool/ restaurant around the corner where we could relax all day.

Mercedes was helpful with our questions. Disgraceful that 3000mxn was taken on deposit for damage to room /bedding. Still not refunded (5 days later) although I was told it would be credited against the bill, then told it would automatically be refunded to the card. The splash pool outside the room was empty and needed cleaning out. Not as advertised and no attempt to remedy as the hotel was full. The hairdryer did not work and there was no effort to replace it. First it was fixed on high with no off button then it was just cold with no off button. The next person in the room would have had the legacy of a cold hairdryer. Ridiculous not to replace it.

It’s a cute place however, there’s no beach on the location ( you can visit the sister location & have access to the beach).

Place was ok but food expensive not worth it taxi service to high. It was ok . Staff was ok Didn't like the price at restaurant to expensive pool wasn't all that dirty. If your solo they barely notice u are there. They force u to tip if u eat there on top the food is over price.. Won't be staying there again .the private tub outside was dirty reason why I paid extra didn't use it.

Lovely room with outside bath and fantastic art on the walls. Lovely jungle feel in the hotel with lots of plants, water. Food at breakfast excellent and Ricardo brilliant. Christina on the desk was very helpful too. Too many mosquitoes that we weren’t aware of and didn’t prepare. Never been bitten quite like it! Maybe some repellent in the room. A waiter in the evening was very rude and abrupt, we waited almost an hour and still no drinks let alone food. so we walked out and he never apologised. It was busy but should have said I’m sorry we can’t take any more booking this eve.

Quiet haven in a lovely neighborhood. We also got a lovely upgrade.

This was my husband and I second time staying there. We love Orchid House, it's like being in an exotic tree house. Love the swim up bar, it's small pool, but it does the trick. Welcome drink is delicious and their cocktails and food are very good and they have healthy options available. Recommend renting a bike a trying all the many restaurants Tulum has to offer. Wish there were lounger chairs by the pool, but that is minor compared to the overall hotel experience.
