Hotel Santo Stefano

Location was great, the staff was beyond helpful and accommodating and it compensated the shortcomings of the property. The quality of robes/ towels should be improved.

Staff was excellent, go above and beyond to help. Room was ready early. Marco made us scrambled eggs that the kids are still talking about. Felt like a boutique hotel where everyone knows you. Rooms were small, but this was expected.

Amazing view of lake! Dinner was a bit overpriced. Breakfast amazing!

Location

The location is perfect, conveniently between San Marco and the Academia Bridge, in a large open square that, while active, has nowhere near the crowds of the high tourist areas. The hotel itself is a little polished jewel that makes excellent use of every inch of its spaces. Our room was decorated beautifully with padded wall coverings in blues. Storage areas were creative: A little cubby tucked in under the window, hanging bar with hangars and lower shelves in the bar area, a small decorative bar with hooks on the wall. A large ottoman in one corner had room for my husband’s to keep his oversized suitcase open. He was also enraptured by the rain shower head. The AC worked perfectly. And no street noise- we slept like babies. Breakfast is a buffet off the lobby, and very complete. All kinds of pastries, meats and cheeses, fruit, cereals, yogurt, eggs to order. Seating is outside under umbrella-with tablecloths! And in the evening, we could have cocktails there, or just sit and enjoy the Italian air. The staff couldn’t be more helpful, arranging transportation to and from the airport, suggesting local restaurants, directions to a bank, and even escorting us to the water taxi that would take us back to the airport.

The location of the property is great, the stuff at the front desk is very helpful and responsive. The room was comfortable and very clean, and the breakfast in the morning was fantastic. The hotel is very small, the elevator is tiny, and the room is very small, so just something to be prepared for. There is no much room for your suitcases or clothes. I wouldn’t say it was a major issue, just something to be prepared for, because it definitely looks bigger in the photos. However, the design is really thoughtful where every inch of the space is used wisely, which made our stay comfortable regardless of the size of the room.

Good location. Someone opened the door at 9 AM while we were inside and didn’t even bother to close it afterwards. The staff weren’t very nice as well.

Excellent location! Very close to several vaporetto stations and right near the Accademia Bridge for easy access to Dorsoduro. I really like the cool wallpaper on the rooms! The room was a bit cramped and there was no real closet space.

Hosts are really kind and nice, exceptional location, facility are good. Good for solo travel.

I was delighted to find a hotel on booking.com, in my budget-minded price range, located in the San Marco Sestiere. And I was intrigued by the thought of staying in a renovated 15th century clock tower. Those who designed the renovation did a magnificent job. I loved the location opening right onto the Campo Santo Stefano. Breakfast outside in the “Campo” was like living a dream. The Staff were so helpful, kind, and interesting. And the hotel is not far from a stop on Line 1 of the ACTV (waterbus or vaporetto) and a stop on Line 2 of the ACTV. This made getting around Venice easy for me since I have a poor sense of direction and was always getting lost in trying to following “Walking Directions,” on my IPhone. While I am told getting lost is part of the “charm,” of Venice, for me it was disconcerting. The following comment is not about the property; rather, it is a reflection I had about my own physical facts and limits. I am older, with some mobility limitations, and I am on the larger side. (The hotel has a Lift!). I realized that people in Italy in the 1500s were doubtless smaller. So in some ways, I felt “bigger” than the size for which the property was designed and more “ungainly,” as it were. Doorways are narrow, chairs seemed small to me, and lower to the ground, for example, as is space in the bathroom, etc. I could not have managed the marble stairs which are narrow, twist and turn, and have no handrails. But I didn’t have to worry about that, since I could use the Lift. It was a little bit like going back to visit a classroom for younger kids once one is older/taller/bigger. So this might be something for those considering Hotel Santo Stefano to know. And I would offer a suggestion to the Hotel Staff for the non-spatially oriented guest like me. Print up a clear set of specific directions from the Hotel to the two nearby stops on the ACTV lines 1 and 2, and offer it to those who would like.

Excellent location, a few minutes walk to all the important tourist attractions, impeccably decorated room, Venetian style, view of the square, safe location, very good breakfast, with everything you could want, very friendly staff.

The location was excellent as it was on a calm and quiet square but in easy walking distance to San Marco and vaporetto stops. The staff was also vetted accommodating and helpful.
