Hotel Fabrik
About Hotel Fabrik
This centrally located hotel occupies a former linen factory from the 19th century in the immediate vicinity of a subway station, letting you reach all sights of Vienna quickly. The center of the city and Schönbrunn Palace can both be reached by public transportation from the Fabrik in about 7 minutes. Hotel Fabrik offers comfortable non-smoking rooms with air conditioning, flat screen TV, and a quiet location facing the interior courtyard. The cozy lobby has an open fireplace and free wireless internet access. The breakfast buffet can be enjoyed in the breakfast room with its terrace. The restaurant features creative cuisine and a nostalgic atmosphere, as well as a terrace where you can eat when the weather's good. The Margaretengürtel subway station (line U4) is in the immediate vicinity. The Längenfeldgasse station (lines U4 and U6) is only a short walk from the hotel, and the tram lines 6 and 18 are right outside Hotel Fabrik.

Interesting architecture, great room with very high ceilings, lots of space, kind employees, clean, good breakfast. Building entrance off the street.

While the room was adequately sized, clean and the breakfasts were decent, this hotel's principal virtue is its location. It is near subways and trams, making it easy to get around Vienna. First, there is a huge discrepancy between what Booking.com and the hotel claims are its reception hours. While Booking.com claims that it is open until midnight, Hotel Fabrik claims it closes at 11pm. The reality is that reception closes whenever it wants (This contradiction is farcical for a place that claims that check-ins are impossible after 11pm, as I personally witnessed reception close as early as 6pm while I was there!). This angers me because I went out of my way to adjust my schedule so as to get to the hotel before 11pm to check-in on time. Instead, I arrived at 9:30pm after a hellish train ride only to find everything closed and the area dead. Good thing I had already read up on the hotel's after-hours procedures, or I would have been literally left out in the cold. It didn't help matters at all that their after-hours lockbox where they store their keycards is located in an enclosure that is completely dark. Then there is the issue of the room. The lighting was completely inadequate for reading, the room was freezing (with no apparent way to raise the temperature) and the shower had no soap. When I went to the front desk the next day to request more lighting and soap, I was assured I would get both only to find no new lighting when I returned (All I was hoping for was an extra lamp!) and the soap switched from my bathroom to my shower dispenser. I went down to reception again only to be told this time by another reception clerk that no additional lighting was possible. Fortunately, I was able to wrangle some soap for my bathroom out of this encounter. So not all was lost. This all seemed very petty and unprofessional to me.

The personal was very friendly and always ready to help, to explain if necessary. The hotel is located in between two metro stations – Margaretengürtel and Längenfeldgasse. The first one is on the line U4, and a little bit closer, and letter is on the intersection of U4 and U6. While Margaretengürtel is a bit closer, to reach it, one would need to across several busy streets, but to the Längenfeldgasse one can go along one street, with almost no cars, with many trees, and I was taking that station. The room was very clean, windows looked into the inner yard, and it was quite inside. The hotel has also a nice restaurant, which is open from Monday to Friday, also except of some public holidays. One can go to the restaurant through the inner yard, which is nicely illuminated in the evening. Only one evening (on Sunday, when I have arrived), I went to another restaurant, not far away, but the restaurant in the hotel I liked better. Also, if take into account that the hotel in the whole is located in rather in some industrial area, the restaurant inside of the hotel is very helpful for somebody who is travelling alone. As to me personally – I liked it! The only problem is that the part of the room where the shower and sink are located does not have a door. This is the only reason why I would recommend this hotel for peoples who travel alone. But if somebody does not see the problem in this particular circumstance – one can choose the hotel Fabric for sure.
