The ryokan felt spacious & charming and all of the staff member was very attentive.
-
Excellent. Deserves to be the “King of Tohoku.”
-
Extraordinary food. Real Japanese ryokan. Strict, flawless, impressive. Location is difficult to reach. Lots of stairs to climb. Parking limited.

The staff goes above and beyond N/A

Food was good and the room was clean 1/ Each person had two pillows, but both pillows were kind of flat and stiff. If put both pillows together, they would be too high for me. It ended up my neck hurt. 2/ There was not natural onsen water for the private open air bath.

EVERYTHING! Kyotaka and Yuka are waiter and waitress for dinner and breakfast were lovely. The included meals were terrific. Spacious room! Onsen experience was top notch. Proximity to the ski slopes was excellent.
-
Amazing setting with semi-private onsen and the option for a one hour private onsen. This was critical for the one member of our party who is trans. Staff were incredibly kind, efficient and effective. The dinner and breakfast will forever be two of our most memorable meals. Beautiful experience all around! I can’t think of a thing!

Staff is English friendly and service mind is another level. Will come back again. The outdoor bath in my room is quite old. That's the only thing I am dislike.

Staff was friendly

My stay was too short.

It was a beautiful historical building with nice interior designs. There are 4 wonderful onsens which we enjoyed a lot. The room is spacious, clean and beds were comfy. The dry room was very convenient for us to store our snowboards. The kaiseki meals provided were excellent and the highlight of our trip. The staff were very welcoming and kind and helped us pack our luggage into our car during our check out and helped us arrange our breakfast and dinner times. It was a bit cold in some parts of the room etc the corridor. However when the doors were closed the rooms were very warm and cosy.

Room was spacious. Employees were very accommodating and nice. Bathroom and public onsen were dated
-
Nice room Expensive and food is not what we expect.
-
Clean, quiet, close to ski lift. The onsens were fabulous and the staff was polite We stayed at a suite on the first day (12/18-12/19) and compared to the suite, this second day twin room was sub-par: small, run-down with a cold bathroom and toilet; the dinning experience was not as good due to the room downgrade. My suggestion, if you can book the suites, do it

Absolutely worth every dollar that we paid for. Will come back again!

Breakfast was good but was too much food for any ordinary person. Could have given a choice for combination of western and japanese traditional. Outdoor pool is too small and view is limited.
-
Excellent all around. Amazing food and kind staff who were very attentive and accomodating. Hertiage buikding was an amazing serene setting for a holiday. Nothing.
-
The location was wonderful and the staff amazing. We loved the traditional building itself and the outside onsen baths, the rooms were very comfortable and cosy, dinner and breakfast were incredible, and of course service was impeccable. Everything was perfect, would 100% come back.

Great traditional Japanese Ryokan with hot spring bath. The building is wood constructed and feels very traditional. The hot spring was great. We booked room with in house outdoor bath but note that is just regular bath, not hot spring. But the shared hot spring was great. The dinner and breakfast were also great.

Excellent food and service at dinner and breakfast. The server spoke English and made the translation of ingredients and the hotel's history more informative, and in general, added a welcoming touch to converse about his experience. The staff was very accommodating and efficient in performing their duties down to carrying our bags to the parking area on departure. It is an older, historic building and the baths needed some updating as in modest repairs to the wood screens and facilities. This is only a minor distraction. Also, the walls are thin so some noise from neighbors was intrusive, but this is not the hotels fault. Note, as you are literally on top of the hot spring, the smell of sulphur can be a bit strong.
